Episode Title: The Spit Flower
Original Airdate: October 19, 1993

Episode Title: Chapter 7
Originally Aired: March 22nd 2017

The penultimate episode of Legion was its best of the season so far, leading up to the climactic battle next week. This episode featured references to They Live, Buried, David’s comic book origins, silent films and anything involving Tim Burton. We finally have our answers about David’s illness and the villain’s identity. Every episode of this show takes you on a visual trip and this one hits every stop on its way. Nothing in it is groundbreaking on its own but most shows and films would never combine them all in a 45-minute stretch. It was not without faults as the show rested on the trusted but well-worn dues ex machina trope. Continue reading Legion S:01 E:07

Episode Title: Shadow Hawk Takes Flight
Originally Aired: March 17th 2017

I haven’t decided if the episode titles mean anything or if they are just supposed to sound profound. A hawk seems to be Danny’s spirit animal or guide because he sees it several times while focusing his chi. I think it would have been better to title this episode, Shadow Hawk Takes Flight over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Most of the episode takes place in a mental institution as Danny tries to convince anyone that will listen that he is Danny Rand and not John Anderson from Canada and not some homeless person who lives in the park. Episode Title: The Joker’s Last Laugh
Original Airdate: February 15, 1967

Sometimes I think the citizens of Gotham are pretty stupid. I mean, they do have a couple of masked heroes to save them from all the villains, but somehow the powers that be allow those villains to continue escaping after being caught for the umpteenth time. This time we see their stupidity even further when people all over the city fall for counterfeit money so poorly made that the Parker Brothers wouldn’t put it in a Monopoly set. It’s all another trick of the Joker’s in today’s episode, The Joker’s Last Laugh. Continue reading Batman S:02 E:47

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:05 Ep:11

Episode Title:  Triangle

Original Air Date: January 9 2001

“Anya, I have faith in you. There is no one you cannot piss off.” – Willow

Depending on whether you liked or hated Riley really controls what mood you’ll be entering into this episode, seeing how the last episode saw him leaving Sunnydale and ending his relationship with Buffy, something which is usually a warning sign that the next episode will be another rough ride of having to deal with a zoned out Buffy which we usually get with most season openers. Surprisingly this episode chooses to take a different track as we open to a convent were we are lead to belive that Buffy has run away to, only for her to show up as the stylish bad-ass and slaying a vampire before then asking questions about the life of being a nun to one of the frazzled nuns. Continue reading Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:05 Ep:11

Wonder Woman S:01 E:03

Episode Title: Beauty on Parade
Original Airdate: October 13, 1976

Lynda Carter’s journey toward one day being Wonder Woman actually started in 1972 when she won a local beauty pageant in Arizona. She then went on to win the Miss World USA pageant. This led to acting classes and eventually being cast as Wonder Woman in 1975. So, it makes sense that the producers of the show would capitalize on Carter’s history with pageants for this week’s episode…Beauty on Parade. Continue reading Wonder Woman S:01 E:03

Episode Title: Snow Gives Way
Originally Aired: March 17 2017

Like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Iron Fist/Danny Rand is a lesser-known character that is about to reach a new height in popularity. There has been a lot controversy surrounding the release of the fifth collaboration of Marvel and Netflix. Many people have chided the two companies for not casting an Asian in the lead role, despite the fact that Danny Rand has always been a white man in the comics. Part of it is misguided whitewashing anger and the rest is anger over a perceived missed opportunity. It is true that the Iron Fist could be any age, race or gender but that same thing cannot be said for Danny Rand. For Danny to have a comic book accurate relationship with Luke Cage when all of the Defenders eventually meet up, he has to be a white person. I think it would be great if after a few seasons Danny lost the title of Iron Fist and it transferred to an Asian actor. That way, the next iteration of this show could be for Asian-Americans what Luke Cage was for black people. Continue reading Iron Fist S:01 E:01

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:23

When my wife was in college she once came to the aid of a friend who was housesitting for a professor. A bat had gotten into the house. She bagged it and released it. See what happens as Zack has to face his case of arachnophobia in Itsy Bitsy Spider. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:23

Episode Title: Chapter 6
Originally Aired March 15TH 2017

Well it took six episodes but Legion has fallen off the style over substance cliff. Based on the trailer for chapter 7 it looks like they will be able to course correct into an action packed episode. Tonight though was a disappointment. Yes, it had interesting visuals and it was entertaining but the amount of story it generated could have been told in five minutes. The plot should always be point 1 and then supported by the visuals and music. Chapter 6 had it all backwards choosing to show us weird and interesting things over progressing the story.
