We are now three quarters of the way through the season and the Hand has everything they need to complete their plan, all it has cost them is two of the five fingers. With the changing leadership landscape will the Hand easily be defeated or will they be more dangerous than ever as their desperation ramps up. You would think with the Defenders out numbering the Hand leaders 4 to 3 that it would be to their advantage, unfortunately the only action in this week’s episode was hero vs hero. Last week I speculated that this episode would contain a massive action scene and I wasn’t really right but I wasn’t wrong either. While it wasn’t the extensive knock down fight I was expecting, nearly the first 8 minutes of tonight’s episode was action and they sprinkled in a couple of smaller fights as well to keep the episode high energy. Finally after a sluggish start to the season we finally get some semblance of normality on the show as Buffy settles back into every day life including the numerous problems which come with it as with the basement flooding, she is faced with the reality that her and Dawn or broke and with no way to raise the required funds for the repairs. At the same time Sunnydale faces a new threat in the form of “The Trio” who have summoned a dangerous demons to do their bidding.

After the mini on the road adventure last week we are now gearing up for the season finale which of course makes it the more frustrating that we get such a spluttering misfire of an episode which picks up from the previous episode with Glory making her final preparations to open a gateway back to her dimension now that she has finally captured Dawn. Buffy meanwhile have lost her sister and faced with the prospect that she might not be able to beat Glory has become catatonic.

Last week was a lot of set up with just a brief action scene and this week was the inverse. Tonight’s episode featured betrayals, infighting multiple stabbings and shootings before the nearly 50 minutes were up. One family bound together by blood and time is torn to pieces and a makeshift family brought together by circumstances may also be shattered beyond repair.
