The Walking Dead

Episode Title: Try
Original Airdate: 3-22-15

There wasn’t quite as much happening this week, as last week’s events were absorbed and next week’s finale was set up. Deanna and her family mourn the loss of Aiden, on the heels of Father Gabriel’s warning. Deanna also interviews Nicholas about what transpired on the ill-fated run, but he lies, as we all knew he would, to make himself look like a defeated hero and the others traitors, while Glenn tells Rick what really happened. Michonne and Rosita track down Sasha, who’s running through Alexandria’s surrounding woods hunting down Walkers. Daryl and Aaron are out at night and see a light in the distance, but find disturbing signs including severed body parts near the place the next day. Carl and Enid, another new Alexandria recruit, frolic through the woods together, being angsty teenagers. And, finally, things escalate when Rick attacks Pete over beating Jessie, which Deanna has known about but ignored because Pete is Alexandria’s only doctor.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E08

Title: “Fall of the Blue Beetle!”

Original Air Date: January 23, 2009

In my review of the first episode I expressed a desire to have the Ted Kord incarnation of the Blue Beetle in this series rather than Jaime Reyes, and in this episode my request was granted in the form of extensive flashback sequences. One of the key differences between DC and Marvel comics is the presence of many legacy characters with the hero’s mantle being passed down through generations, and this episode is a nice foray into that concepts for viewers who may be unfamiliar with that tradition. Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends S:1 E:8

Episode Title: The Prison Plot

Of all the villains in the Marvel Universe, one that is often listed as one of the most powerful is that master of metal…Magneto. This evil mutant is usually pitted against fellow mutants The X-Men. But remember, in this series Spidey’s got a few mutants in his corner. So it’s up to them to stop Magneto in The Prison Plot.

spidey 8-1
As our story begins, dozens of police officers are attending the National Police Chief and Warden Convention, which for some strange reason is being held at a prison. Peter, Bobby, and Angelica are working as gophers for the convention in an attempt to earn money to buy a present for Aunt May’s birthday. The entertainment for the convention is an escape artist called Proton the Great. Spidey, however, quickly recognizes him as Magneto. When Spidey confronts him, Magneto promptly seals the wall crawler in a giant hourglass with sand pouring down on him. Continue reading Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends S:1 E:8

Episode Title: Fantastic Four
Original Airdate: 10-15-12

Welcome to another Webseries Spotlight where you don’t just have to read about the shows we cover here, but you can actually watch them. This time around I’m featuring an animated webseries from Klomp Animation based out of the Netherlands about superheroes having a bad day, appropriately called Bad Days. Like with We Might Be Superheroes we will be sharing an episode, a part of our conversation with lead animator and co-founder Junaid Chundrigar, and some behind the scenes pictures each week every Thursday. But if you can’t wait, feel free to check out the rest of the webseries at Stan Lee’s World of Heroes and CineFix. This week it’s not just one person having a bad day, but four people who could be considered quite fantastic and I’m terribly sorry for that. Just watch!

The Flash S:01 E:15

Episode Title: Out of Time
Original Airdate: 3-17-2015

This is the episode that the show has been leading up to for quite a while now. All the way in the beginning with the pilot episode, this show has been teasing the time travel aspect and it’s finally come to the forefront. And while there were just a few missteps and obvious set ups, there were also so many great moments packed into this episode that it’s easily one of my favorites up to this point. The only downside, or upside depending on how you look at it, is that there are some major plot developments that are likely to be undone due to the time travel that happens at the end of the episode. And while I will be glad to see at least one of them undone, I do hope that not everything gets reset to the beginning of the episode aside from Barry’s experiences.

Episode Title: One Of Us

Original Airdate: 17-3-15

After a well-deserved vacation where Bubba was kind enough to fill in for me last week, I am back and was geared up for the continuation of last week’s shocking cliffhanger on Marvel’s ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D’. However, similar to my co-workers’ reactions to my mild tan from the hot Bahamian sun, I was underwhelmed. The episode titled ‘One Of Us’ decided to slow things down this episode for more light hearted banter and character development, decent action, some subtle plot points and a big confusing reveal in the end.

iZombie S:01 E:01

Episode Title: Pilot
Original Airdate: 3-17-2015

I have never watched a single episode of Veronica Mars, nor had I even heard of the comic iZombie before this show came on my radar. Not only that, but my experience with the “nice zombie” genre has been fairly mediocre. While I enjoyed Warm Bodies, I wasn’t too fond of Life After Beth, and this felt like it could fit right along those lines. Instead, I got a really likable main character with Liv, and a really hilarious detective show. I’ve heard it called “Veronica Mars meets Buffy” and while I already mentioned that I’ve never seen one of those shows, based on this first episode and what I know of the other’s fanbase, I could get on board with that. From the very beginning, I am hooked on this show and really looking forward to where it takes off from here.
