So the previous episode was kind of a heavy one despite the sci-fi elements and seeing how we open to Joyce pulling through her surgery and looking to be on the mend you’d expect that this week would be maybe a little lighter…..sadly this isn’t the case especially in Sunnydale were one problem solved is often followed by another as Buffy and Riley’s relationship heads towards a crossroads.

I’ve said many times that the highlight of Batman season one was Frank Gorshin’s performance as The Riddler. He took this, at the time, relatively minor Batman comics villain and turned him into one of the top mischief makers in the Gotham rogues gallery. Have you noticed that 44 episodes into season two we have yet to see the Prince of Puzzlers? Well, Gorshin was unavailable to continue the role during season two. We’ve already seen where the producers reworked Riddler into a new villain. Remember the Puzzler? Well, eventually the producers decided to bring the character back, but they would have to use another actor. Enter John Astin of Addams Family fame in today’s episode, Batman’s Anniversary. “It wears a human face.” After the fifth episode of the season, we have a stronger idea of who and what our villain is. The song Daily Mail by Radiohead plays a prominent role is this episode and is an apt description of David now that he is back from the astral plane. “The lunatics have taken over the asylum” and there is “no regard for human life” now that David is no longer in control of his body. Whereas other famous superheroes like Batman and Superman have some pretty iconic bad guys who have been portrayed in their various TV incarnations, Wonder Woman is a bit different. I dare say that many of the people who aren’t a part of the comic book culture would have a hard time naming any of Wonder Woman’s foes, while villains like The Joker, Lex Luthor, The Riddler, or Brainiac are much more well-known. Well, here in our first regular season episode of Wonder Woman we have one of the series’ few appearances of a villain that originated in the comics.
