iZombie S:01 E:03

Episode Title: The Exterminator
Original Airdate: 3-31-15

iZombie is back with another strong episode, if you’re not watching this show yet you really should be. It reminds me of Buffy in several ways besides the fact that it has a strong female lead and plenty of quick, witty dialogue. What it really does well that Buffy also did is to take aspects of real life and filter them through this extremely bizarre premise to make it allegorical. Besides that, there’s great characters all around and still a bit of an overarching mystery that is inching its way along in the sidelines. Plus, this episode has a small role from Brian Krakow from My So-Called Life, I haven’t seen that actor in ages, and boy does he look extremely different. I’m sure my wife would tell me that he could give Jordan Catalano a run for his money now. But I’m getting a ways away from the subject at hand here.

The Flash S:01 E:12

Episode Title: The Trickster
Original Airdate: 2-7-91

With the release of this week’s episode of the Flash featuring the return of Mark Hamill’s the Trickster, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the episode that originated the role. I later thought it probably would have been just a bit more appropriate to look at his first “return” near the end of this series, but it was nice to take a quick look back at this episode, even though I had re-watched this series less than a year ago. I did quite enjoy this take on the Flash and I will likely revisit it once again episode-by-episode for this site, but for now enjoy my thoughts on a single episode.

The Flash S:01 E:17

Episode Title: Tricksters
Original Airdate: 3-31-15

It’s the return of Mark Hamill as the Trickster! There’s not really anything more important than that in this episode. Oh, besides some flashbacks of how Eobord Thawne takes on the role of Dr. Harrison Wells back after the death of Nora Allen 15 years ago. As well as another fairly important reveal near the end of the episode that will definitely change the course of the next few episodes. Not only that, but we get to see a little bit more from John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen both inside, and outside of the jail cell. A very nice episode, and a welcome return of the Trickster.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:10

Episode title: Spellbound

Original air date: May 1, 1999

The thing I really love about this show is that it certainly knows how to recover from a stumble like last week’s drug abuse special. This week sees another major addition to the rouge’s gallery as this week sees the debut of “Spellbinder”, a villain who uses the power of illusion and mind control to convince ordinary the ordinary citizens of Neo-Gotham to carry about his crimes for him.

This episode also comes with a bit of a mystery surrounding who Spellbinder is, which while it might be one of the worst kept secrets in the Batman Beyond universe, I’ll still give those not in the loop a heads, so SPOLILERS AHOY.

Webseries: Bad Days S:01 E:03

Episode Title: Green Lantern
Original Airdate: 10-22-12

Welcome to another Webseries Spotlight where you don’t just have to read about the shows we cover here, but you can actually watch them. This time around I’m featuring an animated webseries from Klomp Animation based out of the Netherlands about superheroes having a bad day, appropriately called Bad Days. We will be sharing an episode, a part of our conversation with lead animator and co-founder Junaid Chundrigar, and/or some behind the scenes pictures each week every Thursday. But if you can’t wait, feel free to check out the rest of the webseries at Stan Lee’s World of Heroes and CineFix. This week the bearer of a certain ring does not have a very good day. Well, technically he has a great day, but everyone else around him does not.

The Flash S:01 E:16

Episode Title: Rogue Time
Original Airdate: 3-25-15

Continuing where last week’s episode left off, which was also pretty much the beginning of last week’s episode since Barry found himself repeating the same day once again, but the show doesn’t go the typical time loop route for very long. And while it does undo pretty much all of the major revelations of last week’s episode as most of us would have anticipated, it did undo them in ways that I didn’t entirely expect. It was a very surprising mixture of falling into expectations while also subverting them in some subtle ways. And while there are still some serious topics coming through the episode, it always finds time to lighten the mood whenever possible. Not quite as enjoyable as last week’s Out of Time, but still a great entry in the series nonetheless.

iZombie S:01 E:02

Episode: Brother, Can You Spare a Brain?
Original Airdate: 3-24-15

Liv and company are back again this week with another strong offering that really jumps into a few the heart of what format this show will ultimately follow. There’s a bit more fleshing out of what happens to Liv when she gets her brain fix with hilarious results, and there’s also the introduction of the darker side of the undead with the first real introduction of the guy who seemingly started it all and hasn’t really stopped yet, Blaine. This show is already growing on me more than any of the other shows I’ve been watching the past couple years. Liv is adorable and funny as the lead, and this episode introduces how she will be able to adjust her personality depending on who the victim was each week. And the Blaine subplot is one that has the potential to explore the darker side of the zombie trade.

Webseries: We Might Be Superheroes S:01 E:06

Episode Title: Fight For Your Right!
Original Airdate: 10-16-2013

Welcome back to another episode of the webseries We Might Be Superheroes where we continue our conversation where we left off last week. As always, if you can’t wait to check out the rest of the episodes, visit their official website. This week Hope and Faith fight their way through a personal argument between themselves, though it’s not exactly what you might think it is at first.
