Batman S:01 E:05

Episode Title: The Joker’s Wild
Original Airdate: January 26, 1966

There is no comic book villain that rivals the Joker. Since he was first introduced just over 75 years ago, no other comic book villain is seen as being as evil and sadistic as the clown prince of crime. However, the first appearance of the character off the pages of the comics was on the 1966 Batman series, which is, at its heart, a comedy. Brought to life by the one and only Cesar Romero, it’s time for the Joker’s debut in The Joker’s Wild. Continue reading Batman S:01 E:05

Episode Title: The Penguin’s a Jinx
Original Airdate: January 20, 1966

You may recall that when we last left Gotham City, Batman had decided that he needed to plant a bug at the Penguin’s umbrella factory in order to get to the bottom of the villain’s latest plot. However, the way to achieve that was to head to the factory as Bruce Wayne to plant the bug. The Penguin detects the bug, however, and now has Bruce (who he figures is a rival umbrella manufacturer) tied up and on a conveyor belt headed for the furnace. Let’s see what happens in our latest episode, The Penguin’s a Jinx. Continue reading Batman S:01 E:04

Episode Title: Fine Feathered Finks
Original Airdate: January 19, 1966

When I used to watch Batman as a kid, I was always anxious to find out what villain would be featured on today’s episode. After only a few seconds of this episode it becomes very obvious who our villain is. For, you see, the story opens with a group of people being given free umbrellas. Who else could it be but Burgess Meredith making his debut as that waddling criminal the Penguin in Fine Feathered Finks. Continue reading Batman S:01 E:03

Episode Title: Smack in the Middle
Original Airdate: January 13, 1966

You may recall that at the end of our last episode Robin had been captured by the Riddler and the gang and is now unconscious and strapped to a surgical table. As for Batman, he was in a bit of a stupor after having been served some drugged orange juice at the What a Way to Go-Go. Now we pick up the story in part two of, Smack in the Middle. Continue reading Batman S:01 E:02

Episode Title: Hi Diddle Riddle
Original Airdate: January 12, 1966

One of the hallmarks of the 1966 Batman series was its collection of villains. Not just the villains themselves, but the amazing actors enlisted to portray them. The first episode of the series, very appropriately, features one of the series’ most iconic villains. Frank Gorshin makes his debut as the Riddler in Hi Diddle Riddle. Continue reading Batman S:01E:01

Batman: Introduction

Even though I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, the TV shows of the 50’s and 60’s were a big part of my childhood. Before we had cable TV, local UHF stations would fill their schedules with old shows now running in syndication. Every summer, one of the shows that would pop up on the schedule was the classic late 60’s series Batman. This was, and still is, one of my favorite shows of all time.
