iZombie S:01 E:06

Episode Title: Virtual Reality Bites
Original Airdate: 4-21-15

When we last left Liv and co, she had discovered yet another friendly neighborhood zombie with a British accent and Major had been knocked around at the skate park. This week Liv gets a taste of week old brains from an agoraphobic hacker WoW troll while she decides that she finally needs to start living her life, or unlife. We also start to get a little bit of the walls beginning to close in on Blaine and his operation, but he isn’t quite feeling the heat yet. It was another fun episode that reminded me a little bit of my own World of Warcraft and City of Heroes days while also making me wonder if anyone on the show had ever actually played any of these games since they rarely get them even close to being right.

Gotham S:01 E:20

Episode Title: Under the Knife
Original Airdate: 4-20-15

When we last left our heroes, Gordon was tricked into a case involving a serial killer who goes after the loved ones of any cop who gets too close to solving his crimes, and even when he found this out he continued his investigation into Milo Ventimiglia’s Ogre. We also get a little bit further into the plots of the Penguin, the Bat and the Cat, and the Riddle Man. It’s one of the darker episodes on several fronts and I generally enjoyed it. There’s even the return of Barbara who gets to show a little bit more bite to her character that has been severely lacking in this show from the very beginning. Hopefully she either bites it, or comes into some serious character growth because that has been one of the many missteps this show has taken from the start. And sadly, we don’t get to find out the fate of poor, poor, Fish Mooney who was left with a possibly fatal injury while escaping from the island of Dr. Mor-err-Dollmaker.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:13

Episode title: Ascension

Original air date: May 28, 1999

So after a great first season it comes as something of a let-down that this first season finale ultimately falls so flat. More so when it sets with so many grand ideas to not only wrap up several major plot lines, but also setup the second season all with mixed results to say the least.

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:01 E:12

Episode Title: Pawns of the Kingpin

Well, Marvel’s new Daredevil series on Netflix has been a big hit in the week since it debuted. I guess it’s only fitting that this week’s episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends puts the wall crawler up against the big baddie of that series, Wilson Fisk…the Kingpin. For a villain this big, and he is BIG, it also helps to have Captain America join in the fight. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:01 E:12

iZombie S:01 E:05

Episode Title: Flight of the Living Dead
Original Airdate: 4-14-15

Another week another brains, as this show really starts the blow the lid off of the Zombie community and possibly drops a hint as to what the secret ingredient in this zombie mixture might actually be. This time around Liv sees the death of one of her old college friends who was the complete opposite of Liv before she died. She loved life, did extreme things on a daily basis, and while Liv wants to find out if she was actually murdered she also gets to spend some time actually enjoying herself. The only real issue I had is that this episode almost felt like it ended a bit too soon without being “to be continued…”

The Flash S:01 E:18

Episode Title: All Star Team Up
Original Airdate: 4-14-15

It’s been a little while since the last crossover, so it’s nice to see the return of Felicity Smoak and the introduction of Ray Parker also known as the Atom here in Central City. And as I haven’t been watching Arrow, I’ve brought in fellow writer here at Channel: Superhero Jeffrey Lyles, our Arrow correspondent to share his thoughts on the episode from Arrow’s perspective. But as for my own thoughts, there was a little bit of television trope tension involving keeping secrets and the tensions that creates between friends and lovers, and it never ends well. But other than that, there’s a lot of fun to be had throughout the episode which is one of the reasons why I love this show so much. There were a few rocky patches, but overall there was much more to enjoy than there was to criticize.

Gotham S:01 E:19

Episode Title: Beasts of Prey
Original Airdate: 4-13-15

After another brief hiatus, Gotham is back to finish up the season with its last four episodes. And while it once again has some rather eye-rolling moments, I did quite enjoy much of this episode, especially the way it handed some nice parallels with its multiple storylines. It has quite a few things to juggle as it returns, but it doesn’t take too long to get back into the swing of things with Gordon playing boy scout detective and Little Bruce playing plain old boy scout. The biggest point of contention which it often is would be the entire Fish Mooney arc which plays up to ridiculous heights as it appears to be coming to some sort of conclusion. It was also unfortunate that the best part of the episode which involved the serial killer played by Heroes’ Milo Ventimiglia was shown through a bit of an odd choice of flashback.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:12

Episode title: A Touch of Curaré

Original air date: May 15, 1999

While Barbara Gordon has certainly been a presence in the Batman Beyond universe since the start, the show has played its cards regarding her missing years pretty close to their chest and it’s a hand which this week they finally decide to play as Gordon’s husband and Gotham’s D.A. Sam Young who is currently set to testify against an international arms dealer soon finds himself marked for death by the “Society of Assassins” who have despatched their best member Curaré to assassinate him.
