Gotham S:02 E:08

Episode Title: Tonight’s the Night
Original Airdate: 11-09-15

I won’t go so far as to say that this episode falls back down into the hill of annoyability, but in terms of tropes and predictability, this really took the cake. I mean between obvious trap is obvious, car sideswiped by a truck out of nowhere, and villain dangling from a high place holding onto the arm of our hero, it’s pretty thick with them. Luckily, we also get a nice sidetrack with the Riddler on his own path through the woods, and a little bit of Harvey Bullock to lighten the mood.

The Flash S:02 E:05

Episode Title: The Darkness and the Light
Original Airdate: 11-3-15

So five episodes in and we finally get the full return of Tom Cavanagh as Earth 2’s Harrison Wells, and while it’s likely that he’s not evil he is apparently a huge jerk, to put it in polite terms. The Flash is always a fun show, but this was one of the funniest episodes in recent memory. It went a little dark a couple times and brought in the drama, but it also had some great gags with Barry’s literal blind date as well as everybody having to come to terms with the new Wells.

Gotham S:02 E:06

Episode Title: By Fire
Original Airdate: 10-26-15

It’s getting old hat to say how much I’m up and down on Gotham so instead of going through it all again, I’ll just skip to the end and say that I rather enjoyed this episode minus a couple characters that I’m not feeling very much anymore. It has a strong turn for Cat as well as the continuation of a turning point for Gordon. It also furthers Nygma’s plot, and while it does once again go much further down the rabbit hole than I would have expected considering the show’s timeline, I’ll go along with it for now. And as far as Bridgit’s Firefly, she had a nice bit of a tragic villain story with a twist at the end that I rather enjoyed.

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt S:05 E:01

Good morning creepies! Cryptkeeper Bubbawheat with our final ghost blogger of the season before I wrap things up on our final day tomorrow as this is our 30th day of our 31 Days of Tales From the Crypt. It brings me no great pleasure to introduce Jay Cluitt as he has the sickly named site Life vs. Film when he has obviously overlooked the much superior Death vs. Film which would be much more interesting from my point of view. But anyway, at his site he is going through various lists of the best movies of all time, from a cinephile’s perspective where he decides if it’s worth watching, or if you should spend your time living your life in various other ways. Today he’s looking at an episode that some have said is one of the best from the series, and it includes Tim Curry playing triple roles under heavy makeup. It also includes one of the most bizarre sex scenes you’ll ever have the pleasure of seeing on top of having the Death of Some Salesman.

The Flash S:02 E:04

Episode Title: The Fury of the Firestorm
Original Airdate: 10-27-15

And I’m back on track, with the Flash anyway as it is still my favorite of the superhero shows that I’m currently watching. This episode is all about second chances and even though I’ve said this before when discussing season one, I still love how this show reminds me so much about Buffy: The Vampire Slayer in how each episode isn’t just about the villain of the week, but it also manages to have a specific subtext to it that applies to some real life issue. But the main thrust of this episode it twofold: it introduces the new second half of Firestorm who will be a part of Legends of Tomorrow, and it re-introduces the alternate Harrison Wells.

Supergirl S:01 E:01

Hands up if, as a kid, you crushed hard on Helen Slater when she starred in 1984’s turgid Supergirl movie? puts up hand

Hands up if you’re sick and tired of melancholy, angsty, monotone crybaby superhero depictions of your favorite DC Comics superheroes? puts up hand

Hands up if you can’t understand what the hell it is that DC has been doing to most of their characters in peddling that abortion they call the “New 52” line – now DC You? puts up hand

Okay, then you’ll really enjoy Supergirl, the latest television incarnation of a DC hero to hit the airwaves. Accompanying Arrow, The Flash, and the soon-to-air Legends Of Tomorrow, DC’s Supergirl series brings with it a weight of expectation from multiple parties – fans of the character, feminists looking to have a serious female contender among the throng of spandex-wearing men on our screens, and, of course, casual viewers.

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt S:05 E:05

Hello again kiddos, Cryptkeeper Bubbawheat with another episode from myself as I continue on through my own slow, mini-journey through the fifth season of the show. This was another episode that I had never seen, yet it includes the likes of Bill Paxton and voice of Chucky Brad Dourif. Nothing like a little doll to bring out the Halloween spirit, or maybe some iScream to jam to. Butter this is more like Of Mice and Men and Murder. But then again, you know what they say about throwing glass if you’re People Who Live in Brass Hearses.

31 Days of Tales from The Crypt S:01 E:02

Greetings ghouls and gargoyles, this is Cryptkeeper Bubbawheat back once again for day 25 of our 31 Days of Tales From the Crypt. Today’s episode is brought to you by the Vern from Vern’s Video Vortex and The As You Watch Podcast where on the site he takes a look at films from the new to the trash bin and is always a blast to listen to on his podcast with a bunch of other people. But today he’s going back almost all the way back to the beginning, to one of the first season episodes, one that will get you into the spirit of the holiday. Christmas or Halloween, take your pick, it’s like the Nightmare Before Christmas in that way and not much else, just be sure to turn it up so you can hear it And All Through the House.

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt S:04 E:02

Greetings kiddies, we’re winding down towards the end of our 31 Days of Tales From the Crypt as we inch closer to Halloween. And on day 24 we have yet another guest to take a look at an episode of the show for you. Today we have Nick Hamden from Gorgon Reviews where he reviews mainly new releases including the crap, but does occasionally dip back a few years. Here he chose almost completely at random one of the weaker episodes of the show, and if he reads this I would recommend reading through our other days to find one of the better episodes to check out, because this episode? This’ll Kill Ya.

SuperMansion S:01 E:05

Episode Title: Puss in Books
Original Airdate: 10-22-15

The title of this episode is obviously a play on the 17th century fairytale Puss in Boots, a story of a talking entrepreneurial cat who comes from humble beginnings to be the pet of a great lord. As the title suggests, this episode focuses on Cooch, who during the filming of an educational PSA is outed as being illiterate. There is no villain, returning or otherwise in this episode, instead, the “bad guy” is Sgt. Agony who is back for the first time since episode 1. Agony stumbles across a YouTube video of Cooch struggling with cue cards while looking for clips that promise to blow his mind.

supermansion ep5-1

Since being defeated in an accounting battle by Jewbot, he has held a grudge against Rex and the rest of the League of Freedom, and plans to use a rule about minimum education standards to kick Cooch out of the mansion.

The secondary story-line follows Ranger as he makes a heartbroken trek across the country looking to restore his faith in the American Dream by traveling to Detroit.supermansion ep5-2

Ranger was disillusioned about the state of America after teaching US history to Cooch and learning some alarming facts. Unlike the scene in the first Avengers movie where we see Captain America’s notebook of things to learn about, no one bothered to mention the bad side of American history to Ranger: the assassination of JFK, the resignation of Nixon, the Iran Contra, 9/11 and Joe Millionaire. Ranger has a crisis of faith and sets off on his American-built motorcycle to reignite his love for America. Along the way he meets Reggie (voiced by Breckin Meyer) who tells him the best way to experience the Dream is to get high and ride into the desert to meet his friend Hawkfeather.

After Ranger’s breakdown, Cooch is left with principal Rex, school bully Saturn, chemistry teacher Brad and home economics teacher Jewbot, and one week to prepare for her GED exam in order to stay in the league. Rex spends most of his time, worrying about Cooch, arguing with Sgt. Agony and answering phone calls that would make you think his number was 876-5309. Saturn is completely unhelpful teasing Cooch and attacking Rex with spitballs. Brad is more focused on getting back into an intimate relationship with Cooch than being a good teacher. Jewbot on the other hand is desperate to be a positive influence in the Robin Williams from Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting mold.

While Cooch is battling a catastrophic case of ADD, Ranger finally meets Hawkfeather, who tells him that he must fight and defeat his spirit animal in order to heal his spirit or die trying. A man who dresses up as a giant star spangled bald eagle has a surprising spirit animal.supermansion ep5-3

A fire breathing albino buffalo is the symbol of Ranger’s inner turmoil over the loss of his belief in the American Dream.

Will Cooch pass her test and get to stay in the mansion, or be forced to return to her life as a regular cat? Will Ranger find his faith and be able to defeat his spirit animal, or will the team possibly lose two members? Find out next Thursday October 29th, on an internet-connected device near you.
