Webseries: Bad Days S:01 E:04

Episode Title: Superman
Original Airdate: 10-29-12

Welcome to another Webseries Spotlight where you don’t just have to read about the shows we cover here, but you can actually watch them. This time around I’m featuring an animated webseries from Klomp Animation based out of the Netherlands about superheroes having a bad day, appropriately called Bad Days. We will be sharing an episode, a part of our conversation with lead animator and co-founder Junaid Chundrigar, and/or some behind the scenes pictures each week every Thursday. But if you can’t wait, feel free to check out the rest of the webseries at Stan Lee’s World of Heroes and CineFix. This week it’s the Man of Steel, Kal-El, Clark Kent, Man of Tomorrow, not-a-bird-or-a-plane, also known as plain old Superman.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E09

Episode Title: “Journey to the Center of the Bat!”

Original Air Date: January 30, 2009

Sometimes in life you are given everything you want, like a pillow case full of candy on Halloween, and though this episode was released in Winter, it felt like fall with all the sweet, sugary goodness of characters it contained. The two breakout guest heroes so far have been Plastic Man and Aquaman, and this episode raises our glucose levels dangerously high by including both. Well, technically he has a great day, but everyone else around him does not.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E08

Title: “Fall of the Blue Beetle!”

Original Air Date: January 23, 2009

In my review of the first episode I expressed a desire to have the Ted Kord incarnation of the Blue Beetle in this series rather than Jaime Reyes, and in this episode my request was granted in the form of extensive flashback sequences. One of the key differences between DC and Marvel comics is the presence of many legacy characters with the hero’s mantle being passed down through generations, and this episode is a nice foray into that concepts for viewers who may be unfamiliar with that tradition. Episode Title: Fantastic Four
Original Airdate: 10-15-12

Welcome to another Webseries Spotlight where you don’t just have to read about the shows we cover here, but you can actually watch them. This time around I’m featuring an animated webseries from Klomp Animation based out of the Netherlands about superheroes having a bad day, appropriately called Bad Days. But if you can’t wait, feel free to check out the rest of the webseries at Stan Lee’s World of Heroes and CineFix. This week it’s not just one person having a bad day, but four people who could be considered quite fantastic and I’m terribly sorry for that. Just watch!

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E07

Episode Title: “Dawn of the Dead Man!”

Original Air Date: January 16, 2009

This series has been on a roll offering us sharp juxtaposition of settings within the DC comics universe, and this episode continues that trend by starting with a post apocalyptic world, and then taking us to a ghost story set in London. Sometimes this technique makes for a rich, intriguing experience, and sometimes it feels disjointed. I fear that this episode is closer to the latter than the former. Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E06

Episode Title: Enter the Outsiders!

Original Airdate: January 9, 2009

Batman has been in the pages of DC comics from the earliest days of the golden age to the present, and had a key role in every phase including the flood of new characters in the early 80’s created to capture the Superfriends crowd. This episode finds an intriguing way to combine one of the golden oldies with a group of teens from the far out 80’s phase, and seems perfectly in place in the first decade of our current millennium.  Continue reading Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E06

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:06

Episode title: Heroes

Original air date: February 21, 1999

What is it with the writers of this show including so many homages to the Marvel Universe? What with “Golem” featuring those Mardok inspired dolls let alone Terry frequently comes across like Peter Parker in a different suit. Did the writers forget that Batman is part of the DC universe or something? Well don’t expect anything to change with this episode as this time the writing team decide to essentially rip off “The Fantastic Four”. Okay perhaps I’m being a little harsh as the first lesson you learn in writing class is that there are no original ideas. Yes it’s kind of a downer of a thing to hear on day one, but even with this in mind it is perhaps a little on the nose with its source of inspiration to say the least.

Episode Title: Day of the Dark Knight!

Original Airdate: January 2, 2009

One wonderful aspect of the world of comics is the vast tapestry of worlds and genres that can be intertwined. This episode takes us to an oft overlooked corner of the DCU, the medieval realm of knights and wizards and the mythology of Arthurian legends. Additionally, I am always thrilled when I see an appearance of Jack Kirby’s Etrigan the Demon in a story in any medium. Continue reading Batman: The Brave and the Bold S:01 E:05
