Preacher S:01 E:06

Episode Title: Sundowner

Finally there were some interesting developments in the latest episode of AMC’s Preacher. The origin of Jesse’s power was revealed, Tulip tried yet another strategy to win Jesse back and the angles are in big trouble.

I think that when this season is released on Blu-Ray and DVD that the season one collection should be titled unintended consequences. I shared that thought in my review last week and this week the angels voiced that fear to Jesse while they tried to convince him to relinquish his powers.

The best scene of the show took place this week, it was action packed, funny and shot well, until the end. When it started to pull back until everything was happening in one small blurry spot causing the scene to lose its effectiveness. After this particular scene it’s amazing that Jesse can still want to hold on to the voice and not turn it over immediately, to keep that kind of danger and craziness out of his life.

He may truly feel it was part of God’s plan for him to have receive Genesis or it could be his selfish desire to do something good and him viewing this as his only chance. If he doesn’t master his ability soon

As a whole, the show continues to be well shot and pretty to look at between the mix of muted and vibrant scenes. The acting of Jesse and Cassidy are still the high points for me but Tulip is growing on me as her manic moments continue to decrease as the season progresses. I really like Emily but her character gets almost no respect from the main trio. She is obviously in love with Jesse which causes her confrontation with Tulip in tonight’s episode, but Jesse is focused solely on his church and his hang-ups involving Tulip to even acknowledge Emily let alone her desires. The biggest character mystery of the show is Jackie Earle Haley’s Odin Quincannon, I have no idea what his end plan could be. Is he somehow able to ignore Jesse’s commands or how does murdering several people serve God? The biggest plot mystery is when the Cowboy will return and how his story will be connected to Jesse and the rest. One let down of a subplot is the story involving Mayor Miles and his inability to decide what he should do about witnessing Odin killing the Green Acre people. He knew that turning in Odin would cripple the town and that he did not want to be the mayor responsible for it so all of his waffling and seeking advice was a waste of time and only served to reach the episodes running time.

I think I know how the next four episodes will play out on a large scale but I could still be surprised by the details of how they get there. After Jesse’s outburst and misuse of his ability things are going to go downhill over the next few episodes before reaching a conclusion that will rock the tiny town and possibly fulfill Tulip’s wish of going back on the run together.

Episode Title: South Will Rise Again
Originally Aired: June 26th 2016

Preacher as a series is doing an amazing burnout with how well it is spinning its wheels. In this episode, Jesse is doing his best to be a good preacher and is not always successful. Emily is pining for Jesse but she was incapable of voicing her affection for the trouble man of faith. Tulip is still trying to pull Jesse back to her and the life they had together before it was ruined by Carlos, going as far to try and embarrass him in front of his flock instead of just seducing him. Cassidy is seemingly content to stay in the small town at this point no longer concerned with the return of the vampire hunters and making money to flee to his unspecified destination. His life has dissolved in to a relentless pursuit of drugs and women. Continue reading Preacher S:01 E:05

Episode Title: Monster Swamp
Originally Aired: June 19th 2016

This week’s episode of Preacher was at once both entertaining and potentially pointless. Not much happened again this week but now I have a feeling where things may be heading. If my guess is correct this season will not be beloved by the fans of the comic, but it could be setting up for a second season that is more true to the plot of the comic. Episode Title: The Possibilities
Originally Aired: June 12th 2016

Everything is a possibility when you are Jesse Custer and have the ability to make anyone do anything that is physically possible. Unfortunately, Jesse was not in charge of writing this episode or maybe he could have made them write a script where more happens. Other than the fact that not much happens in this episode the writers should be disciplined for not adding in a Coming to America reference in the scene where Jesse is testing out his control over Cassidy. Episode Title: See
Originally Aired: June 5th 2016

Two episodes in and the best way to sum up Preacher is baffling but fun. My main hope for the second episode of Preacher was that it would slow down, be a little more focused, and begin to unravel the story that will be told over the 10-episode season. It was not better by leaps and bounds but it was an improvement over last week. Instead of splitting the story almost in thirds, it strongly focuses on Jesse with Tulip and Cassidy acting as supporting characters. Continue reading Preacher S:01 E:02

Have you ever wanted to watch a show and when you turned on your TV there was a sporting event or news broadcast on in its place? Sometimes if the show is popular enough it will start from the beginning and just run long forcing a show later in the evening to adjust. However, if it is just a middle of the road show or something more popular is on later you will hear the message; “we now join this program already in progress.” Continue reading Preacher S:01 E:01

Episode Title: Blood in the Streets
Original Airdate: 5-1-16

The consequences of Alicia’s radio hookup from the season premiere come full circle, as the survivors are taken captive on the Abigail by Jack and his group. As the pirate (for lack of a better word) trio await the arrival of their own leader, Travis is instructed to “hot-wire” the Abigail into starting, because Strand jumped ship, with the keys, at the first sign of trouble. Speaking of Strand, several flashbacks peel away a little of his mystery as we learn he lost everything in Hurricane Katrina, then stole $36,000 from a businessman, Thomas Abigail, who eventually became Strand’s partner in various real estate ventures as well as life. Meanwhile, Nick swims to shore on Strand’s orders, to meet up with an associate by the name of Luis, who takes Nick back to the Abigail in time to kill some of the commandeering pirates, but not before their own leader takes off with Travis and Alicia. The episode ends with Madison pulling a near dead Strand out of the water.

Episode Title: Ouroboros
Original Airdate: 4-24-16

This episode opens with passengers of Flight 462 surfacing in the ocean. Alex (not Charlie, as I stated in my “462” review yesterday, as that is how IMDb had her listed) finds Jake among the wreckage, but he’s badly burned. They share a lifeboat with two other survivors, who try to convince her Jake is dead weight and will soon die and turn. She ends up killing them when they try to kill Jake.
