Episode Title: A Firestar is Born

It seems like just two weeks ago we started season two. Actually, it was only two weeks ago. Remember, this season only added three episodes to the rotation for Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Since we’ve already covered the origin stories of both Spidey and Iceman, that just leaves one more to go. This one, though, doesn’t have any roots on the comic book page. Since Firestar was a character original to this series, this origin was new territory. Here we go with A Firestar is Born. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:02 E:03

Episode Title: Along Came Spidey

When it was announced a few months ago that Sony would be starting over with Spider-Man movies AGAIN, and that the web-slinger would join the MCU, some fans started getting nervous. Would we be getting the Spider-Man origin story all over again!?! I understand the reservations with having a 3rd big screen version of the story, but you gotta admit that Spidey’s origin story is one of the best. Today’s episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends gives us yet another take on the classic story in Along Came Spidey. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:02 E:02

Episode Title: The Origin of the Iceman

Well true-believers, we’ve arrived at the start of season two of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. Now, when it comes to Saturday morning cartoons, it was not uncommon for a relatively small number of episodes to be made of a show which were then rerun for many years. In the case of the Spider Friends, only three episodes were added to the mix for season two. Each of these episodes focused a bit on the origin stories of our three heroes. We begin with the birth of one “cool” mutant in The Origin of The Iceman. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:02 E:01

Episode Title: The Quest of the Red Skull

Well, true believers, we’ve come to the final episode of season 1 for Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. This particular episode is one that could be considered somewhat controversial. In fact, due to its use of Nazi symbols and imagery, this episode was rarely arired when the series was rerun in syndication. Get ready for The Quest of the Red Skull. Episode Title: Pawns of the Kingpin

Well, Marvel’s new Daredevil series on Netflix has been a big hit in the week since it debuted. I guess it’s only fitting that this week’s episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends puts the wall crawler up against the big baddie of that series, Wilson Fisk…the Kingpin. For a villain this big, and he is BIG, it also helps to have Captain America join in the fight. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:01 E:12

Episode Title: Knights and Demons

A few episodes ago, the Spider Friends battled a creature called Video Man to respond to the rise in popularity of videogames. But Pac-Man and Space Invaders weren’t the only entertainment for up-and-coming nerd children of the 80’s. There was a little something called Dungeons & Dragons. So, in our episode today, our heroes battle an evil wizard and his gang of demons, enlisting the help of Marvel’s Black Knight along the way. It’s time for Knights and Demons.

It seems that the evil wizard Mordred was long-ago imprisoned in the Land of Shades by the Black Knight and his ebony blade. However, a demon slave of Mordred’s encased in stone has recently been unearthed in modern times. When the beast awakens, it can steal the ebony blade (conveniently on display in a New York museum) and Mordred can take over the world. With this danger on the horizon, The Black Knight is summoned on his winged horse. His first job is to get back his ebony blade. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:01 E:11

Episode Title: The Vengeance of Loki

So far, the most iconic villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been Thor’s brother, that God of Mischief himself, Loki. Today, he brings his brand of troublemaking to the animated world of Spider-Man and His Amazing friends. Of course, his heroic brother Thor comes along to help stop him in today’s episode The Vengeance of Loki.

Our story begins in the arctic where a ship has suddenly encountered a strange iceberg that shifts position every time they try to move out of the way. Of course, a collision happens and the ship starts to sink into the icy water. Meanwhile, back in New York, Iceman receives the ship’s distress call so he, Spidey and Firestar head north to help. Iceman creates an ice platform to push the ship back to the surface, however the Spider Friends get more than they bargained for since the iceberg is one of Loki’s tricks. It is an attempt by him to lure his enemy Thor into a trap. Loki is also after a magical diamond which is attached to an ancient viking ship which is frozen under the ice. He already has a duplicate jewel which, when combined with the other, will grant him great powers. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:01 E:10

Episode Title: Spidey Goes to Hollywood

Right now, many of my friends from the world of film blogging are in Hollywood at the Turner Classic Movies Film Festival. While I, on the other hand, get to watch them tweet about the festival from the comfort of my own home and office. I am jealous, to say the least. Now, as if to pour salt on the wound, even Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar get to head off to tinsel town in this week’s episode, Spidey Goes to Hollywood. Episode Title: The Prison Plot

Of all the villains in the Marvel Universe, one that is often listed as one of the most powerful is that master of metal…Magneto. This evil mutant is usually pitted against fellow mutants The X-Men. But remember, in this series Spidey’s got a few mutants in his corner. So it’s up to them to stop Magneto in The Prison Plot.

spidey 8-1
As our story begins, dozens of police officers are attending the National Police Chief and Warden Convention, which for some strange reason is being held at a prison. Peter, Bobby, and Angelica are working as gophers for the convention in an attempt to earn money to buy a present for Aunt May’s birthday. The entertainment for the convention is an escape artist called Proton the Great. Spidey, however, quickly recognizes him as Magneto. Episode Title: Video Man

The greatest Christmas present I ever received was the Atari 2600. Laugh if you must, but we didn’t care about the low-res graphics…we could play Missile Command in our own homes and that was enough. When Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends debuted, the video game craze was in full swing. The Pac-Man Fever album was less than a year away. So leave it to Electro to cause trouble for the Spider Friends by bringing a video game character to life. Get ready, true believers, for Video Man.
