Gotham S:01 E:17

Episode Title: Red Hood
Original Airdate: 2-23-15

If my opinion of Gotham was like dating, then we would definitely be in a rollercoaster on-again-off-again relationship. One week it’s great and everything’s clicking, and the next week it feels like I got slapped in the face. But I think I’m starting to take this metaphor a little bit too far. What I’m trying to say is that while last week’s episode was one of the episodes that I liked the least, it turns right around and this week’s episode was one that I liked the most. Where I hated the way that they teased the introduction of the Joker as a little kid, I really loved the way they handled this Red Hood gang that is yet another possible hint at a future early Joker in more ways than one.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:05

Episode title: Meltdown

Original air date: February 14, 1999

For those of you wanting to know what happened to Batman’s original rogue’s gallery who we are left to assume were either killed or retired especially when no real information has until this point  as it would seem they have been considered to the past. Still for those of you who wanted to know what happened to these memorable villians you can consider your prayers answered this week, as this episode sees the return of “Mr. Freeze”.

Constantine Season:01

Welcome to the first full season wrap-up here at Channel: Superhero as Constantine unfortunately didn’t get picked up for a full season and only came away with 13 episodes. There’s still a chance that it will return in some form or another, though fans will have to wait until May when NBC decides on the new crop of pilots to know if they will try their hand at a new show, give Constantine another shot, or ship it off to SyFy which wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Though the head of SyFy on Twitter recently said that he hadn’t heard anything about the rumor that Constantine was being considered there. As for my own opinion on the show, I enjoyed it quite a bit. While I don’t rate the episodes or the shows, I would rank it probably just below the Flash as my favorite show for this season. It has some horror elements, but it generally takes a police procedural approach with some magic and humor thrown in for good measure.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E04

Episode Title: “Invasion of the Secret Santas”

Original Air Date: Decenber 12, 2008

Most series produce a Holliday special to help embrace the sentiments of the season around Christmas time. This episode is the Christmas entry of Batman B n’ B, and as it happened so early in the first season, there was no guarantee that the creators would ever get another chance, so they pulled out all the stops here and tried to really make it count.

In the teaser we have the Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle teamed up with Batman to battle against one of the more ridiculous villains from the comic books, Sportsmaster, in a bowling alley. After a bit of humor involving Reyes talking to his symbiotic suit, Beetle and the Bat easily apprehend the bad guy. After the situation is resolved, Beetle invites Bats to Christmas dinner, but Batman has to decline because “crime doesn’t take a Holliday”. Continue reading Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E04

Arrow S:03 E:14

Episode Title: The Return
Original Airdate: 2-18-15

“Arrow” had more of a 50/50 flashback/present day ratio this week and it came at the expense of two really intriguing plots— Oliver’s return to Starling City and the latest chapter in his rivalry with Slade Wilson.

To hone their skills, Merlyn suggests Oliver and Thea head to the island, but he neglects to mention he freed Slade making it even more of a deathtrap than normal. Slade wastes little time taking out the Queen siblings and places them in his cell so they can experience his life since his failed attempt to destroy Starling City. They eventually escape and Oliver finally tells Thea that Merlyn made her kill Sara. Continue reading Arrow S:03 E:14

The Flash S:01 E:14

Episode Title: Fallout
Original Airdate: 2-17-15

Continuing where we left off last week, we get to see a bit more into what makes Firestorm tick, and he (they?) will become the first metahuman of the series that is not a villain and also survives through the end of the episode. We get some more of Iris playing reporter, and the return of Clancy Brown as General Eiling. And on top of that, we get some discussion of time travel as Joe reveals his discovery from Barry’s old house. And finally, as usual it ends on a nice reveal though I still don’t think it means what some people will think that it means.

Gotham S:01 E:16

Episode Title: The Blind Fortune Teller
Original Airdate: 2-16-15

It was bound to happen, I had started getting my hopes up about how Gotham had turned a corner and was churning out more episodes than I enjoyed with only minor things that irritated me. But from the very notion that they were going to be introducing the Joker in this episode I had my doubts, and as I watched the episode I knew I was completely right. It wasn’t entirely a hate watch for me, but there was very little throughout the episode that I truly got invested in, and most of that was Dr. Leslie Thompkins who has become my third favorite character on the show next to Alfred and Harvey Bullock. I always thought it was going to be a mistake to introduce so many well known characters in the Gotham universe so soon into the genesis of the show, and I preferred the episodes where they steered away from that. But this episode introduced Robin’s parents as well as a very young and already disturbed Joker in a way that was not very satisfying at all, and honestly felt like the entire episode was all one big joke, which would be fitting considering.

The Walking Dead S:05 E:10

Episode Title: Them
Original Airdate: 2-15-15

After two consecutive deaths, it was time for the group to have some quiet reflection. As they wend their way to Washington, D.C. (as decided the best bet since that’s where big, fat liar Eugene was headed), the group must deal with starvation, dehydration, and exhaustion, both physical and mental. Most of the grief focus is put on the deceased’s siblings, Sasha and Maggie, as well as Daryl. Sasha becomes a loose cannon wanting to shoot at anything to take out her anger over Tyreese’s death, while Maggie and Daryl seem to simply give up any hope of carrying on. After a massive rainstorm drives the group to take shelter in an abandoned barn, a horde of Walkers raids in the middle of the night, with Daryl, Sasha and Maggie being the first to hold the fort to keep them out. The next morning, Sasha and Maggie meet a stranger named Aaron, who has clearly been following them, because he politely asks to speak to their leader, calling Rick by name.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:04

Episode title: Golem

Original air date: January 31, 1999

Taking a break from the usual business of foiling the evil plots of Derek Powers, this episode instead chooses to focus its attention on Hamilton Hill High School. Sadly its not to explain why Terry goes to school here instead of Gotham Tech. Instead we get to see Batman facing off against one of his non-super powered foes as the nerdy and downtrodden Willie Watt decides to take revenge on bully Nelson Nash (voiced here by Seth Green) with the use of a giant construction robot known as the GoLeM.
