The Flash S:01 E:17

Episode Title: Tricksters
Original Airdate: 3-31-15

It’s the return of Mark Hamill as the Trickster! There’s not really anything more important than that in this episode. Oh, besides some flashbacks of how Eobord Thawne takes on the role of Dr. Harrison Wells back after the death of Nora Allen 15 years ago. As well as another fairly important reveal near the end of the episode that will definitely change the course of the next few episodes. Not only that, but we get to see a little bit more from John Wesley Shipp as Henry Allen both inside, and outside of the jail cell. A very nice episode, and a welcome return of the Trickster.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:10

Episode title: Spellbound

Original air date: May 1, 1999

The thing I really love about this show is that it certainly knows how to recover from a stumble like last week’s drug abuse special. This week sees another major addition to the rouge’s gallery as this week sees the debut of “Spellbinder”, a villain who uses the power of illusion and mind control to convince ordinary the ordinary citizens of Neo-Gotham to carry about his crimes for him.

This episode also comes with a bit of a mystery surrounding who Spellbinder is, which while it might be one of the worst kept secrets in the Batman Beyond universe, I’ll still give those not in the loop a heads, so SPOLILERS AHOY.

Arrow S:03 E:17

 Episode Title: Suicidal Tendencies

Original Airdate: 3-252015

Atom vs. Arrow! Suicide Squad! Felicity stands by her man! One shocking character death! And the manhunt begins!

If anything, this week’s show was probably a little too jam packed with storylines that would have been better suited as focus of their own episode. Putting two significant storylines in one shortchanged both and didn’t give either enough time to breathe. In one sense, it certainly kept things moving. Continue reading Arrow S:03 E:17

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:09

Episode title: The Winning Edge

Original air date: April 10, 1999

Kind of a mixed bag this week as we get to find out the fate of another classic Batman villain as this episode sees the return of Bane while on the downside side it’s also another Hamilton Hill High School set episode. This week seeing Terry investigating the use of “Slappers” a skin patch containing the drug Venom which the school sports team are using to give them the titular winning edge.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E08

Title: “Fall of the Blue Beetle!”

Original Air Date: January 23, 2009

In my review of the first episode I expressed a desire to have the Ted Kord incarnation of the Blue Beetle in this series rather than Jaime Reyes, and in this episode my request was granted in the form of extensive flashback sequences. One of the key differences between DC and Marvel comics is the presence of many legacy characters with the hero’s mantle being passed down through generations, and this episode is a nice foray into that concepts for viewers who may be unfamiliar with that tradition. Arrow S:03 E:16

 Episode Title: The Offer

Original Airdate: 3-18-2015

Oliver has to decide how effective his stint as the Arrow has been as Ra’s al Ghul offers him the opportunity to save not just Starling City, but the world as his replacement. Season 3 has been all about destiny, purpose and deception and their impact on the cast leading to some interesting character soul-searching and eventful episode. Continue reading Arrow S:03 E:16

The Flash S:01 E:15

Episode Title: Out of Time
Original Airdate: 3-17-2015

This is the episode that the show has been leading up to for quite a while now. All the way in the beginning with the pilot episode, this show has been teasing the time travel aspect and it’s finally come to the forefront. And while there were just a few missteps and obvious set ups, there were also so many great moments packed into this episode that it’s easily one of my favorites up to this point. The only downside, or upside depending on how you look at it, is that there are some major plot developments that are likely to be undone due to the time travel that happens at the end of the episode. And while I will be glad to see at least one of them undone, I do hope that not everything gets reset to the beginning of the episode aside from Barry’s experiences.

iZombie S:01 E:01

Episode Title: Pilot
Original Airdate: 3-17-2015

I have never watched a single episode of Veronica Mars, nor had I even heard of the comic iZombie before this show came on my radar. Not only that, but my experience with the “nice zombie” genre has been fairly mediocre. While I enjoyed Warm Bodies, I wasn’t too fond of Life After Beth, and this felt like it could fit right along those lines. Instead, I got a really likable main character with Liv, and a really hilarious detective show. I’ve heard it called “Veronica Mars meets Buffy” and while I already mentioned that I’ve never seen one of those shows, based on this first episode and what I know of the other’s fanbase, I could get on board with that. From the very beginning, I am hooked on this show and really looking forward to where it takes off from here.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:08

Episode title: Dead Man’s Hand

Original air date: March 21, 1999

Another old school villain makes their debut appearance this week let alone their first appearance in the DC Animated universe as the episode sees the return of “The Royal Flush Gang” who return to Gotham to embark on another crime spree, while their leader King is equally keen to have his revenge against Batman.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E07

Episode Title: “Dawn of the Dead Man!”

Original Air Date: January 16, 2009

This series has been on a roll offering us sharp juxtaposition of settings within the DC comics universe, and this episode continues that trend by starting with a post apocalyptic world, and then taking us to a ghost story set in London. Sometimes this technique makes for a rich, intriguing experience, and sometimes it feels disjointed. I fear that this episode is closer to the latter than the former.
