31 Days of Tales From the Crypt S:05 E:04

Cryptkeeper Bubbawheat here for the midpoint of our 31 Days of Tales From the Crypt. It’s been a lot of fun so far reading everyone’s takes on some of the best and the not-so-good episodes, but we still have several of great episodes on their way. For today’s episode I’m continuing my way through the fifth season where I ended last year and am now up to the fourth episode as the first and third episodes have already been claimed by others. I remembered this one fondly and it was interesting watching it this time as I clearly remembered the twist that actually does change your perception of what’s going on in the episode which isn’t common in most of the Tales From the Crypt twists, how’s that for a little food for thought?

Episode Title: Food for Thought

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:02 Ep:09

Episode title: What’s My Line Part 1

Original air date: November 17, 1997

“I aspire to help my fellow man. Check. As long as he’s not smelly, dirty, or something gross.” – Cordelia

The first half of a two parter and honestly it another ho-hum episode this week as Spike calls in a trio of assassins from the “Order of Taraka” to eliminate Buffy.

The issues with two part episodes is that you usually have the slow build-up of the first episode as the scene is set and pieces are moved into place ready for the payoff in the second part. Why they choose to split this story into two parts however is unclear and seems to only have been done so that the ending of this first part (which I will get to later) would have more of an impact. The main issue here though is that none of the characters have anything particularly interesting to do this week as you get the sneaking suspicion that everyone is just killing time while they wait for something to happen.

Gotham S:02 E:04

Episode Title: Strike Force
Original Airdate: 10-12-15

I feel like Gotham is finally starting to get back on track, though there’s still plenty here to nitpick on. They have a new police captain, a new villain mastermind whose bad acting comes only when his character is acting, and there were some great moments strung throughout the episode. It’s finally starting to feel like it’s heading in a proper direction for a season referred to as “Rise of the Villains” along with the proper amount of push back from the police side even if there’s little question that it will ultimately be a failure.

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt: Tyler’s Top 10

Greetings everyone, we’re doing something a little bit different today for day 13. Instead of just looking at a single episode, YouTuber Tyler aka The Whedon Fan put together a top 10 list of his favorite episodes a couple years ago. I enjoyed it quite a bit when I watched it last year and he agreed to let me share it with you here this year. I don’t fully agree with his list, there’s a couple I haven’t seen yet and a couple of my favorites that didn’t make the cut, but they’re all great episodes and many of them have been covered or will be covered right here this year in our own 31 Days of Tales From the Crypt. Enjoy!

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt S:06 E:15

Cryptkeeper Bubbawheat back again with another mind numbing tale of terror from Tales From the Crypt this month of October. Today’s terror-ific writer is Austin Shinn, you may find him over at his Film podcast The Film Room and spin-off blog The Film Room Lobby or you can also find him blogging about things a little more personal like dealing with being Autistic at A Flickering Life. But today, on the 12th day of our little blogathon here, he is talking about the episode You, Murderer best known for being one of their special effects testing grounds in a way where the main character has the likeness of one Humphrey Bogart.

Episode Title: You, Murderer
Original Airdate: 1-25-95

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt S:02 E:08

Day 11 already? It must be time to roll out of the grave for another day in our 31 Days of Tales From the Crypt. Cryptkeeper Bubbawheat here again to introduce yet another in our line of guest bloggers taking a look at an episode of this great HBO series. Today we have M. Brown from Two Dollar Cinema where he can usually be found giving his Yays and Boos at various not-quite new releases. But today he’s looking at one of the more fun episodes with a couple cringe-inducing moments, especially if you don’t like seeing anything going in someone’s ear. It also has a few recognizable faces in the episode and one very recognizable voice if you were a fan of stand-up comedy in the late 80’s/early 90’s For Cryin’ Out Loud.

Episode Title: For Cryin’ Out Loud
Original Airdate: 5-22-90

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt S:02 E:12

We’re already up to day 10 of our 31 Days of Tales From the Crypt, seems like only yesterday that we started this trip down memory lane. Cryptkeeper Bubbawheat here once again to introduce the next ghoulish blogger to take on yet another episode of the series. Today’s guest is Wendell from Dell on Movies where he can be found checking out all sorts of movies including many different superhero and comic book movies and today he is going to look at one episode that really creeped me out when I was younger, but now I mostly just cringe at the excellent-but-an-awful-person performance of Moses Gunn, Fitting Punishment

Episode Title: Fitting Punishment
Original Airdate: 6-19-90

Heroes Reborn S:01 E:04

Episode Title: The Needs of the Many
Original Airdate: 10-8-15

Before starting to watch Heroes Reborn, I intended to go through most of the first season of Heroes again in order to prepare. Unfortunately, I didn’t make it nearly as far as I originally thought I would be able to, but there were a few things that I have noticed even just from refreshing myself with those first few episodes. And one of those elements of the show I had already forgotten about until I re-read my recent review of the original first episode. It’s a little disappointing to see that the ratings for this show haven’t been as strong as they were when this show was still new, as I’m quite fond of this show compared to, say Gotham. But this episode continues to develop some of the mysteries while dangling several others just out of reach.

SuperMansion S:01 E:03

Episode Title: Let’s Talk About Rex.
Original Airdate: 10-8-15

Let’s talk about Rex baby, let’s talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be in this episode. The third and final episode of the initial release of Supermansion that will cover themes of the circle of life.

An injured Rex is forced to face his mortality while Cooch is in heat and welcoming almost all suitors. While the last episode was dominated by movie references the pop culture inspiration for this episode seems to be things seen on TV. We see a Tom Cruise-esque couch jump on a Jimmy Fallon inspired talk show, and a call back to the McDonald’s nothin’ but net commercial from the early 90’s.

Episode Title: They Shoot Omega Pets, Don’t They?
Original Airdate: 10-8-15

I wouldn’t say this show is out to teach us a lesson like most animated shows, but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn something from it. This episode could teach you to keep in contact with the people who are important to you because time passes quickly. Or you could learn about the difficulties that can accompany pet ownership. This episode contains many references to movies starting with the title and hitting movies of all kinds like: Aliens, Gremlins, Seabiscuit, Ratatouille, and Babe. This episode is full of fun and nostalgic references, and continues the high quality of the pilot episode.
