iZombie S:01 E:13

Episode Title: Blaine’s World
Original Airdate: 6-9-15

It seems like it’s only been a few weeks since iZombie started and it’s already time for the finale. There’s been plenty of buildup on several fronts and the payoff is a lot bloodier and more explosive than I would have ever expected. As far as my predictions go, I was very close to being right on one count, but wrong everywhere else. It took things in directions that I wouldn’t have ever seen coming, but they ultimately make a whole lot of sense for both the story and the characters themselves. And it sets itself up very nicely for an interesting season two.

The Flash S:01 E:23

Episode Title: Fast Enough
Original Airdate: 5-19-15

From the very first moment of the pilot episode of the Flash, we knew that it was going to lead up to this moment. The moment where Barry makes the decision to go back in time to save the life of his mother and change the entire world for better or for worse. But what’s almost more important than that is the lead up to that decision. It’s full of emotional moments with everyone important in Barry’s life in one way or another. And not everyone is giving him the same advice. Not only that, but what happened here in this episode will have a pretty big impact on where this show goes forward in season two.

Episode Title: My Name Is Oliver Queen

Original Airdate: 05-13-15

Season 3 is in the books for ‘Arrow’ with the city saved and one surprising death.

I was attempting to figure out why I felt a bit underwhelmed by the season finale and I think in large part I was tired of saying goodbye to Oliver Queen. Continue reading Arrow: S:03, E:23

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. S:02 E:21 & E:22

Title: S.O.S (Part 1 & 2)

Original Airdate: 12-5-15

Season 2 of ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.LD.’ is considered to be an improvement from Season 1, however the season finale blows away any comparisons to its initial season and solidifies the show as one of the most interesting and nuanced shows that successfully blends super hero action with an engaging drama. Titled ‘S.O.S’, the two-part Season 2 Finale aired back to back as one lone episode, and in some ways, was move effective in pushing forward the story of the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe much more than a recent film set in the same world. With betrayals, the reveal of a clear antagonist, tying up loose ends and an intense cliffhanger ending, ‘S.O.S.’ shocks and awes as Season 3 cannot get here soon enough!

Gotham S:01 E:22

Episode Title: All Happy Families Are Alike
Original Airdate: 5-4-15

We finally made it to the end of the first season of Gotham, and boy has it been a doozy. For all of its flaws and questionable choices, it is always entertaining and this week is no different. We have the return of Fish Mooney, the creation and practically the resolution of a city wide gang war which makes the city turn into Gotham: Beyond Thunderdome for some reason. There is plenty here to talk about, and not all of it is good. There were a few surprises including one death that I don’t think anyone anticipated, and another death that we all knew was coming, but enough hemming and hawing, it’s time to get right down to it.

Constantine Season:01

Welcome to the first full season wrap-up here at Channel: Superhero as Constantine unfortunately didn’t get picked up for a full season and only came away with 13 episodes. There’s still a chance that it will return in some form or another, though fans will have to wait until May when NBC decides on the new crop of pilots to know if they will try their hand at a new show, give Constantine another shot, or ship it off to SyFy which wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. Though the head of SyFy on Twitter recently said that he hadn’t heard anything about the rumor that Constantine was being considered there. As for my own opinion on the show, I enjoyed it quite a bit. While I don’t rate the episodes or the shows, I would rank it probably just below the Flash as my favorite show for this season. It has some horror elements, but it generally takes a police procedural approach with some magic and humor thrown in for good measure.

Episode Title: Waiting for the Man
Original Airdate: 2-13-15

After a strong first season as far as the writing goes, even though the ratings didn’t always live up to that, we have made it to the season finale. There is still hope that the show will continue on into a season 2, most likely on SyFy but nothing has been announced yet. On Twitter, those involved with the show seem hopeful and the impression is that NBC as a whole is happy with the show itself and want to work with it to find an appropriate home to continue. I will save my thoughts for the season as a whole for next week, but I will say that this makes a much better season finale than it does a series finale. The episode features the return of many different characters from across the season so far, including Jim Corrigan who will become the Spectre, Poppa Midnight, and even a brief appearance by Gary Lester from beyond. One reason why I do think it is a great season finale rather than series finale is because it sets up so many possibilities rather than wrapping anything up at all, especially a big reveal with Manny at the very end.
