Constantine S:01 E:12

Episode Title: Angels and Ministers of Grace
Original Airdate: 2-6-15

Coming in for the second to last episode of the season brings on one of the funniest episodes to date, and also one with some of the most revelatory character moments where both John and Manny soften up a bit. It does make me sad that the show is ending already, though there is a sliver a hope that she show will get picked up for a second season by SyFy along with a name change to the original Hellblazer along with a stronger focus on the horror and sci-fi elements rather than the current format which is closer to a detective procedural with supernatural elements. This episode has John and Zed investigating a literal black heart of darkness while Zed struggles with her own personal spiritual conflict.

The Six Million Dollar Man Movie:02

Episode: Wine, Women and War
Original Airdate: 10/20/73

Here we go with “Pilot Movie Number 2” – I don’t remember this one either since it came out when I was 2. I might have watched it as an infant but I don’t remember much from that year. What I do know from that time of my life is that was after my birth father left me and mom – Easy Rider style – so my mom was going around trying to find a new husband to take care of me, so I lived with my Grandparents most of the time. That being the case, I probably watched a LOT of Johnny Carson, All in the Family and Liberace specials.  And The Carol Burnett show. And Sonny & Cher. Let’s see what we’ve got here.

Batman: The Brave and The Bold S:01 E:02

Episode title: Terror on Dinosaur Island!

Original air date: November 21, 2008

This is the second episode, and as such it has the daunting task of convincing the viewer to be compelled to return on a weekly basis rather than simply tuning in due to mild curiosity or lack of something better to watch. I always feel like the third episode is the make or break point for a new series, and episode 2 to is a great opportunity to swing for the fences with little risk. Perhaps in this instance we have a home run.

Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends S:01 E:02

Title:The Crime of All Centuries

Well true believers, if you were impressed when Steven Spielberg brought dinosaurs back to life in Jurassic Park, that’s nothing compared to what Kraven the Hunter does in this week’s episode. Brace yourselves for “The Crime of All Centuries.”

The Flash S:01 E:12

Episode Title: Crazy For You
Original Airdate: 2-3-15

While Gotham may be the show I most enjoy discussing, the Flash is still the show that I just completely enjoy on almost every level. It gets the right combination of drama, action, and humor without generally taking itself too seriously. I seriously doubt that Gorilla Grodd would ever be able to make its way into Gotham, but he’s already been teased a couple times before now and during the final scene before the credits we get our first glimpse of the intelligent ape even if he stays mostly in the shadows. But this episode wasn’t really about Grodd, instead it was about Peek-A-Boo, or a Nightcrawler style teleporting metahuman. As well as a bit about what really happened to Ronnie.

Agent Carter S:01 E: 05

Marvel's 'Agent Carter' starring Hayley Atwell & James D'Arcy

Episode Title: The Iron Ceiling

Original Airdate: 2-3-15

After some episodes that didn’t really advance the plot much, this week’s ‘Agent Carter’ gives us its best episode yet. Titled ‘The Iron Ceiling’, everyone from the writers to the cast blows the roof off this one with a story that encapsulates every aspect of a spy adventure series that this one was advertised as. The episode has dollops of adding back-story to certain characters developing them further, strengthening relationships, explosive action, familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and dramatically advancing the story and raising the stakes for the remainder of the series.

Gotham S:01 E:14

Episode Title: The Fearsome Dr. Crane
Original Airdate: 2-2-15

One of the biggest complaints against Gotham seems to be how it has been taking too many of Batman’s villains lately and having them come into play long before Bruce Wayne even develops an irrational fear of bats. There’s a couple thought processes that go into this criticism. The biggest one against is the theory that it was the appearance of Batman himself that created the more eccentric supervillains of Gotham. If he hadn’t come around with his theatricality then the crime would still be there, but it would continue to be the stereotypical mob and street crime. The other theory is that the most interesting thing about the world of Batman, Gotham City, and Arkham Asylum are the villains and to have this show focusing on the city that beget Batman without using any of the rogues gallery would be a waste and be uninteresting. I find that the show is the best when it walks the fine line between those two sides, but it is a fine line and different for everyone.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:01-02

Episode title: Rebirth

Original air date: January 10, 1999

Pilot episodes can be notoriously difficult things to pull off, more so when they are spin offs from a universally popular series which is the situation this show finds itself in with “Rebirth”. Originally designed to be released as a two part episode it would ironically end up being shown with both parts joined together in a TV movie format which arguably works a lot better than the original intention the show’s creators had of splitting it into two parts.

The Six Million Dollar Man Movie:01

Episode: The Moon and the Desert
Original Airdate: 3/13/73

I don’t remember TOO much about this series except that I loved it and watched it rabidly as a kid.  Thinking about this now, I do remember thinking it was completely awesome and the special effects were mind blowing and…. The Bionic Woman…. YUM! Let’s see what we’ve got going on here.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S:01 E:01

Episode title: The Rise of the Blue beetle

Original air date: November 14, 2008

This is the first episode of the series, and as such it is tasked with establishing a relationship with the viewer. Too often series try to throw an excessive number of elements into a pilot, and I am impressed with the restraint of the creators in avoiding that trap with this one. I am, however, a bit puzzled by the direction this episode went. The teaser consists of Green Arrow and Batman in an elaborate trap constructed by the Clock King. Of course the good guys escape, but the significant moment of the sequence occurs when Batman says via voice over that even though the heroes bicker with one another, the truth is that they make each other better (paraphrased). This statement does establish the central theme of all the adventures that will follow over the three season’s of the series.
