Episode Title: The Mistress of All Agonies
Originally Aired: March 17th 2017

The ninth episode of Iron fist may not be action packed, with only one brief action scene, but that doesn’t mean there is not a lot going on. Danny learns he has been ousted from Rand, Ward is arrested Colleen has been poisoned and oh yeah, Harold is back from the dead, again. Continue reading Iron Fist S:01 E:09

Episode Title: Felling Tree With Roots
Originally Aired: March 17th 2017

We are back for episode seven of Marvel and Netflix’s Iron Fist and we are treated to how devious and dangerous Harold Meachum actually is. He is murderous, a liar and a manipulator his only goal is to regain his power and freedom no matter what it costs Danny and Ward. Harold is always using Ward or demanding things from him but Harold knows exactly want to say to get Ward to come to his aid when he is most reluctant, “I need you son.” Of course, Ward cannot turn down an opportunity to prove himself to his father even if it means dumping bodies in a pond in the park. Harold will also be dead by the end of this episode; in a way that is very true to is contact name in Ward’s phone. Continue reading Iron Fist S:01 E:07

Butchers, entomologists and cold-blooded killers, oh my. Oh my indeed, Danny is offered and accepts the grand duel challenge from Madame Gao. Danny must take on four of The Hand’s best fighters in a three round tournament to save the life of the chemist’s daughter. While Danny does have bigger fish to fry he is also acting like a child by not accepting responsibility for the trouble he is causing for the company he tried so hard to be a part of.   Continue reading Iron Fist S:01 E:06

Episode Title: Under Leaf Pluck Lotus
Originally Aired: March 17 2017

I haven’t mentioned it before but I am a fan of the opening credits for Iron Fist. It features a warrior made of molten iron going through a kata with flashes of yellow to represent the fist. The theme has a lot of bass and reverb in it and I always find it enjoyable even though it doesn’t kick off the show and comes a few minutes later, interrupting the story. A lot has changed in a short while for our main characters and we have added a new character to the roster if only for a short while. Clair Temple has made her at least her first appearance in Iron Fist. Continue reading Iron Fist S:01 E:05

Episode Title: Eight Diagram Dragon Palm
Originally Aired: March 17th 2017

This show doesn’t seem to be one for cliffhangers, when we left last week, Danny had been pushed out of a penthouse window and this episode opens with him waking up on a couch. No answers to how the Meachums got him off someone else’s balcony, but I’m assuming the answer is money. The theme of this episode for me is, the returning, the return of people everyone thought was gone, the return to a world you cannot resist and the return of excitement. Episode Title: Rolling Thunder Cannon Punch
Originally Aired: March 17th 2017

The third episode of Iron fist is its most action packed episode to date, by far. I’ve decided that the episode titles may be meaningless, because there was no cannon or thunder or earth rattling punches in this episode. The episode does feature five different fights, the top three all involve Colleen, who finds herself taking on security guards, Danny and taking part in an illegal cage fight. I will try to research their origin for next week. There is also a heated legal battle brewing now that Jeri (J money)   Hogarth who we last saw in Jessica Jones is on Danny’s side. The episode ends of a cliffhanger, which is a bit weird for episode 3 of 13 but it is still good enough to startle you if you didn’t expect it. Continue reading Iron Fist S:01 E:03

Episode Title: Shadow Hawk Takes Flight
Originally Aired: March 17th 2017

I haven’t decided if the episode titles mean anything or if they are just supposed to sound profound. A hawk seems to be Danny’s spirit animal or guide because he sees it several times while focusing his chi. I think it would have been better to title this episode, Shadow Hawk Takes Flight over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Most of the episode takes place in a mental institution as Danny tries to convince anyone that will listen that he is Danny Rand and not John Anderson from Canada and not some homeless person who lives in the park. Episode Title: Snow Gives Way
Originally Aired: March 17 2017

Like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, Iron Fist/Danny Rand is a lesser-known character that is about to reach a new height in popularity. There has been a lot controversy surrounding the release of the fifth collaboration of Marvel and Netflix. Many people have chided the two companies for not casting an Asian in the lead role, despite the fact that Danny Rand has always been a white man in the comics. Part of it is misguided whitewashing anger and the rest is anger over a perceived missed opportunity. It is true that the Iron Fist could be any age, race or gender but that same thing cannot be said for Danny Rand. For Danny to have a comic book accurate relationship with Luke Cage when all of the Defenders eventually meet up, he has to be a white person. I think it would be great if after a few seasons Danny lost the title of Iron Fist and it transferred to an Asian actor. That way, the next iteration of this show could be for Asian-Americans what Luke Cage was for black people. Continue reading Iron Fist S:01 E:01
