The Walking Dead S:05 E:14

The Walking Dead

Episode Title: Spend
Original Airdate: 3-15-15

A lot happened this week, setting up what will probably be two very intense final episodes of the season. Abraham is put on a construction crew to gather materials to expand the wall around Alexandria, during which the crew is attacked by Walkers. The foreman wants to abandon one of his fallen crew, but Abraham risks everything to save her. At the end of the day the foreman resigns and tells Deanna to put Abraham in charge. Meanwhile, Jessie’s son Sam, whom Carol threatened last week, follows her around, begging for more cookies, but Carol realizes he’s after more, like a gun for protection from his father. Carol mentions this to Rick and determines that the only way to handle a guy like Pete (Jessie’s husband, an abusive drunk) is to kill him.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:08

Another old school villain makes their debut appearance this week let alone their first appearance in the DC Animated universe as the episode sees the return of “The Royal Flush Gang” who return to Gotham to embark on another crime spree, while their leader King is equally keen to have his revenge against Batman.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E07

Episode Title: “Dawn of the Dead Man!”

Original Air Date: January 16, 2009

This series has been on a roll offering us sharp juxtaposition of settings within the DC comics universe, and this episode continues that trend by starting with a post apocalyptic world, and then taking us to a ghost story set in London. Sometimes this technique makes for a rich, intriguing experience, and sometimes it feels disjointed. I fear that this episode is closer to the latter than the former. Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:1 E:7

Episode Title: Video Man

The greatest Christmas present I ever received was the Atari 2600. Laugh if you must, but we didn’t care about the low-res graphics…we could play Missile Command in our own homes and that was enough. When Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends debuted, the video game craze was in full swing. The Pac-Man Fever album was less than a year away. So leave it to Electro to cause trouble for the Spider Friends by bringing a video game character to life. Get ready, true believers, for Video Man. Webseries: Bad Days S:01 E:01

Episode Title: Spider-Man
Original Airdate: 10-8-12

Welcome to another Webseries Spotlight where you don’t just have to read about the shows we cover here, but you can actually watch them. This time around I’m featuring an animated webseries from Klomp Animation based out of the Netherlands about superheroes having a bad day, appropriately called Bad Days. Like with We Might Be Superheroes we will be sharing an episode, a part of our conversation with lead animator and co-founder Junaid Chundrigar, and some behind the scenes pictures each week every Thursday. But if you can’t wait, feel free to check out the rest of the webseries at Stan Lee’s World of Heroes and CineFix. The series starts off with Marvel’s poster child who has recently come back into the cinematic fold, Spider-Man.

Powers S:01 E:02 & E:03

The Powers saga continues, and I don’t use that word lightly. The pacing is a slow burn, exposing the story little by little, rather than providing neatly encapsulated episodic stories. This time around, fallout from Calista’s falling out shows us how each character reactions to that little encounter, and Johnny makes his move…

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. S:02 E:12

Episode Title: Who You Really Are
Original Airdate: 3-19-15

I (Bubbawheat) am just here for one episode while Shah is off on vacation (lucky so and so) but he will be back to continue discussing the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D. next week. After a great set up last week for the entire Inhumans-not-mutants situation, this brings in one of my favorite guest stars from last season Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif, but what it really does is focus on the inner workings of the team dynamics and how Skye’s change has shifted everything completely. This is one of the few superhero shows outside of Arrow that is not on its first season and so it’s more able to focus on the characters and team dynamics rather than all the world building that needs to be done on the other shows. Not only that, but the characters here already have gone through changes and arcs and are the farthest thing from one-dimensional. And besides all of the character interactions, there are also a small handful of important revelations in this episode that have far reaching consequences.
