Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:06 Ep:02

“Demons. Ah, well, there’s something you don’t see every day. Unless you’re us.” – Xander

So at the end of the first half of this season opener, things really weren’t looking good for the group what with Giles having left and demon bikers invading Sunnydale. The group meanwhile were left with the impression that they had failed to resurrect Buffy when the ceremony was interrupted unaware that Buffy was not only brought back to life but now buried alive in her own coffin.

Episode Title:  Bargaining

Original Air Date: October 2nd 2001

“Oh, poor Watcher. Did your life pass before your eyes? Cuppa tea, cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea.” – Spike

So here we are at the start of the Bronze era of the show which had in the break between seasons moved networks to UPN. This first episode though picks up the story give months after Buffy sacrificed herself to save her sister Dawn and close the gate opened by Glory. In the meantime Willow has taken it upon herself to become the group leader while the Buffybot acts as a decoy to the local Supernatural population maintaining the illusion that the Slayer is still alive and active in Sunnydale.

A bit of a nutty season, no? As much as I still love Rick, maybe he shouldn’t plan things anymore. First his plan to lead the quarry herd away from Alexandria got a lot of people killed in the first half of the season, which led to the walls collapsing and more deaths, like his girlfriend. Then he planned to kill all the Saviors with zero information about them or their compound, and ends up on his knees with his son, new girlfriend and 8 besties all at the mercy of Negan. I think maybe we should put someone new in charge for awhile.

Episode Title: Last Day on Earth
Original Airdate 4-3-16

I’m just going to get this out in the open right out of the gate: that wasn’t a cliffhanger, it was a dick move.

So the “90-minute” finale (with enough commercial breaks to rival the Super Bowl), was split into two plot lines. One was Morgan, on horseback, looking for Carol. He finds her in pretty bad shape and tries to convince her she needs to come back to Alexandria for stitches and healing. She refuses, gives him the slip and ends up on the wrong side of a gun held by the one Savior she failed to kill on the road in the last episode. He shoots her in the arm and leg, and walks away, but she taunts him into coming back to finish the job. As he’s about to pull the trigger, Morgan shows up and gives the man a chance to back away, but eventually nixes his “all life is precious” mantra and kills the Savior to save Carol.

So much stupidity and a big shocking ending for the penultimate episode of Season 6. So Carol left Alexandria at the end of last week’s episode, because she can no longer kill for seemingly no reason, and therefore cannot go against the Saviors to save herself and everyone else. Not long after setting off she encounters a truck full of Saviors, whom she tries to beg to let her go, but eventually kills almost all of them. One escapes on foot, presumably back to the Saviors’ compound.

Miss me? Last week was full of road tripping and empty of zombie apocalypses, not to mention computer access, so here’s a double header for you.

Episode Title: The Same Boat
Original Airdate: 3-13-16

At the end of “Not Yet Tomorrow,” when Rick & Co. thought they’d taken out all of the Saviors, they found out that Carol and Maggie were taken hostage by they enemy. So this episode focused on the two as hostages. They were taken to a facility several miles from the base compound and held as Rick negotiated with the woman in charge, Paula, for their release. Carol feigned being weak again, which aided in their eventual escape. Other than that, there was a lot of sitting around and talking, some close calls with Walkers, then escape as Carol and Maggie killed another eight or so Saviors and made it out. The entire scenario took its toll on the two ladies mentally.

Episode Title: Not Tomorrow Yet
Original Airdate: 3-6-16

After opening with Carol scrounging around Alexandria to make Beet & Acorn Cookies for the kids (ummm…gag), Rick and the others return from Hilltop, calling a meeting in the church to discuss what must be done about the Saviors in exchange for food from Hilltop, with Morgan being the only one who truly objects to killing them. Rick hashes out a plan to go the next day, with some information about their compound from Andy, a guy from Hilltop who has delivered food to the Saviors.

Things cooled off a little this week, but the Group’s world has now opened up to many more possibilities. After letting Rick and Michonne put some clothes on in private, Jesus tells them he is a scout for his community. He looks for other survivor camps with which to potentially open a trade of goods. Rick, Michonne, Maggie, Glenn, Daryl and Abraham agree to take Jesus home and discuss trading options with his leader. On the way, they save several members from Jesus’s group after a car accident, including a doctor who was an OB before the apocalypse, lucky for Maggie and Glenn.

Episode Title: The Next World
Original Airdate: 2-21-16

A very different kind of episode this week picks up two months after the mid-season premiere (according to Danai Gurira on The Talking Dead), as Alexandria has picked itself back up and continues to move forward. Rick and Daryl head out on a supply run, because food and other essentials are becoming scarce. They find a truck already loaded with lots of goodies, but it is soon stolen by Jesus. That’s right, Jesus literally takes the wheel here (thanks, Twitter!).

Episode Title: No Way Out
Original Airdate: 2-14-16

I think my heart rate has slowed enough to write about last night’s episode, but if my words turn to gibberish, just know I’m having another aftershock. Yeah, it was that good.

We left the group scattered throughout Alexandria, and the surrounding area, after a herd collapsed part of the wall. This episode picks up with the stinger of the mid-season finale as Daryl, Sasha and Abraham are stopped by ten guys on motorcycles demanding everything they have, because their property now belongs to Negan, an infamous villain from the comic. While Daryl is dragged to the back of tanker he boosted to hand over anything else they may be hiding, the leader toys with Sasha and Abraham, over whether or not he will kill one, or both of them, until he and all of his buddies are suddenly blown sky high, as Daryl managed to quietly dispose of his chaperone, then take the bad guys out with the handy rocket launcher (for lack of a better term) Abraham picked up during their detour. Looks like Negan will have to wait a bit for his introduction.
