The Flash S:01 E:18

Episode Title: All Star Team Up
Original Airdate: 4-14-15

It’s been a little while since the last crossover, so it’s nice to see the return of Felicity Smoak and the introduction of Ray Parker also known as the Atom here in Central City. And as I haven’t been watching Arrow, I’ve brought in fellow writer here at Channel: Superhero Jeffrey Lyles, our Arrow correspondent to share his thoughts on the episode from Arrow’s perspective. But as for my own thoughts, there was a little bit of television trope tension involving keeping secrets and the tensions that creates between friends and lovers, and it never ends well. But other than that, there’s a lot of fun to be had throughout the episode which is one of the reasons why I love this show so much. There were a few rocky patches, but overall there was much more to enjoy than there was to criticize.

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. S:02 E:17

Original Airdate: 15-4-15

Episode Title: Melinda

Primarily serving as a somewhat origin story, the latest episode of ‘Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.‘ gives us a history of the character of Melinda May played by Ming Na Wen. While showcasing the painful past, the episode also reveals some big surprises regarding the Inhumans, and connects the past to the present with some ominously vague reference of things to come, and ending with Coulson getting another step closer to retaking S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s a surprisingly good episode with amazing action and lots of feels!

Gotham S:01 E:19

Episode Title: Beasts of Prey
Original Airdate: 4-13-15

After another brief hiatus, Gotham is back to finish up the season with its last four episodes. And while it once again has some rather eye-rolling moments, I did quite enjoy much of this episode, especially the way it handed some nice parallels with its multiple storylines. It has quite a few things to juggle as it returns, but it doesn’t take too long to get back into the swing of things with Gordon playing boy scout detective and Little Bruce playing plain old boy scout. The biggest point of contention which it often is would be the entire Fish Mooney arc which plays up to ridiculous heights as it appears to be coming to some sort of conclusion. It was also unfortunate that the best part of the episode which involved the serial killer played by Heroes’ Milo Ventimiglia was shown through a bit of an odd choice of flashback.

Powers S:01 E:08

Remember back in the nineties when live action stunt shows based on your favorite cartoons were a thing? Your parents paid inflated ticket prices so you could watch guys in rubber ninja turtles costumes kick a rubber-costumed Shredder’s butt and maybe there was a musical number or two. How stupid would that be in real life? How stupid and contrived and ill-designed would it be for someone to hire an actual bad guy to attack a good guy for publicity? Hey, let’s find out!

Walking Dead S1

Episode Title: Days Gone Bye
Original Airdate: 10/31/10

The one that started it all…

In the beginning, Rick Grimes, a small town sheriff’s deputy shot in the line of duty, awoke from a lengthy coma in the hospital completely alone. Confused, he wandered the deserted halls that gave off the impression of “war zone,” stumbling upon many dead bodies. Rick made his way to his equally deserted house, where his wife and son clearly packed and left in a hurry. A stranger by the name of Morgan found Rick and brought him up to speed on the horror the world fell into while he was unconscious. People became infected and died, but then came back, hungry for flesh. Morgan told Rick that his family probably headed to the safe zone in Atlanta, so after loading up on weapons, Rick went to find them. Unfortunately, Atlanta had become overrun by the undead, Walkers, and Rick became trapped in an abandoned tank, while his family and best friend found a small refugee camp outside the city.

Batman Beyond S:01 Ep:12

Episode title: A Touch of Curaré

Original air date: May 15, 1999

While Barbara Gordon has certainly been a presence in the Batman Beyond universe since the start, the show has played its cards regarding her missing years pretty close to their chest and it’s a hand which this week they finally decide to play as Gordon’s husband and Gotham’s D.A. Sam Young who is currently set to testify against an international arms dealer soon finds himself marked for death by the “Society of Assassins” who have despatched their best member Curaré to assassinate him.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E11

Episode Title: “Return of the Fearsome Fangs!”

Original Air Date: February 20, 2009

So far this series has taken us to medieval times, a post apocalyptic future, the after life and into the cosmos, and just when I think I’ve seen it all, it gives us the old west and a mystical Kung Fu adventure. While exploring previously unexplored corners of the DCU this episode also takes extreme liberties with the Batman origin story. This episode is perhaps bold, but not necessarily rewarding.

Daredevil S:01 E:01

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been on a roll lately, interlinking movies and television shows together. The key, I feel, has been to make sure each individual creative work is done in a manner that suits it the best: from the fantastic realism of Captain America to the colorful space opera of Guardians of the Galaxy. With Daredevil, they’re trying something new… grounded, realistic crimefighting. It fits into the same universe as flying robots and talking racoons, but knows how to keep an internal tone that’s pitch-perfect. Drop down into the grimy city streets to see how the man with no fear translates to the small screen…

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:01 E:11

Episode Title: Knights and Demons

A few episodes ago, the Spider Friends battled a creature called Video Man to respond to the rise in popularity of videogames. But Pac-Man and Space Invaders weren’t the only entertainment for up-and-coming nerd children of the 80’s. There was a little something called Dungeons & Dragons. So, in our episode today, our heroes battle an evil wizard and his gang of demons, enlisting the help of Marvel’s Black Knight along the way. It’s time for Knights and Demons.

It seems that the evil wizard Mordred was long-ago imprisoned in the Land of Shades by the Black Knight and his ebony blade. However, a demon slave of Mordred’s encased in stone has recently been unearthed in modern times. When the beast awakens, it can steal the ebony blade (conveniently on display in a New York museum) and Mordred can take over the world. With this danger on the horizon, The Black Knight is summoned on his winged horse. His first job is to get back his ebony blade. Continue reading Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:01 E:11
