Batman S:02 E:42

Episode Title: Penguin is a Girl’s Best Friend
Original Airdate: January 26, 1967

A few weeks ago we had our first ever three-part story of Batman. When the episodes originally aired, that would’ve set off the show’s broadcast schedule. Usually it would’ve been part one of the story on one night, part two on the next. But our last two episodes aired a week apart. So, another three-parter was needed to get back on the right schedule. And just like last time we get not one, but two villains. Here come Burgess Meredith as the Penguin and Carolyn Jones making her second appearance as Marsha, Queen of Diamonds in Penguin is a Girl’s Best Friend. Continue reading Batman S:02 E:42

Legion S:01 E:02

Episode Title: Chapter 2
Originally Aired: February 15, 2017

An episode that features our main character; turning the volume knob down on a giant speaker in his mind, him and his best friend using a child’s humidifier to get high on drugs bartered for with a stolen oven and multiple flashes of the yellow eyed devil, was somehow  more grounded than the pilot. Maybe it was because of the time constraints that the director had to work in to get the second episode ready to air, maybe it was because it was just time to settle in and tell a story and not live on visuals alone. The second episode has plenty of style and visual substance but its main goal is introducing new characters and progressing the story.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:05 Ep:06

Episode Title:  Family

Original Air Date: November 7th 2000

“You’re in a magic shop, and you can’t think what Tara would like. I think you’re both profoundly stupid.” – Giles

Its funny to think that we’ve now had Tara in our lives for quite awhile now and she’s never had the focus instead relegated to the background and general arm candy for Willow, while the projected an almost permanent aura of being the series pixie dream girl. Thankfully someone decided it was time to fill in some major holes in her backstory as here we get the first (and sadly last) Tara-centric plotline.

Powerless S:01 E:02

Episode Title: Wayne Dream Team
Original Airdate: 2-9-17

One thing I’ve already realized about why I decided to stop writing reviews on this site was that it was difficult for me to stick to a deadline each week when my evenings end up being so busy. So here I am, several days past my self-imposed deadline to discuss this past Thursday’s episode of Powerless. I will say that the episode did minimize the amount of Batman references, and I will also say that I re-watched the first episode with my wife and there were a couple non-Batman DC references that I overlooked. This episode also focused more on the entire office dynamic in general with very little in the way of actual superheroics which was mostly relegated to the office fantasy superhero draft.

Episode Title: Chapter 1
Originally Aired: February 8th 2017

It may not have a tie in to the movies but the first X-men related TV show in 20 years premiered tonight on FX. If you are like me you watched the trailers online or saw a commercial on TV, and you felt intrigued, even though you had no idea what was going on. I’m not sure a lot has changed now that I’ve seen the pilot episode. I’m excited about Chapter 2, but I have very little idea of what’s going to happen next. Continue reading Legion S:01 E:01

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:05 Ep:05

Episode Title:  No Place Like Home

Original Air Date: October 24th 2000

Vampire – “I’ve always wanted to kill the Slayer.”

Buffy – “And I’ve always wanted piano lessons. So really… who’s surprised we’ve got this unexpressed rage? But honestly, I think I express mine better. Tell you what… you find yourself a good anger management class, and I’ll jam this pokey wood stick through your heart.”

So after last week’s misfire of an episode its great to see this episode getting things back on track if perhaps at the same time serving as something of an info dump as we get several big moments through the episode including the introduction of the series big bad “Glory”, Giles reopens the Magic Box, Joyce gets more sick and most key here we find out the truth about Dawn. it’s really a jam packed episode.

Episode Title: Green with Evil Part I
Original Airdate: October 5, 1993

It is not uncommon for some well-known television series’ to make big changes as they progress. Take something like Happy Days. The Fonze was just a side character when the series began, but eventually he became the focal point of the show. The show Family Matters introduced a nerdy next door neighbor named Steve Urkel midway through the first season and he soon became the star of the show. Well, we’ve reached the point where the Power Rangers made a major change…bringing in a new cast member who would stick with the show through the run of this series and who would appear in future shows in the Power Rangers universe, as well. Here comes the introduction of Tommy in Green with Evil Part I. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:17

Episode Title: Wayne or Lose
Original Airdate: 2-2-17

It feels like I’ve been away from this site for way too long despite the fact that when I stopped watching the shows I was covering, I was fully enjoying them. But the concept of Powerless, and the fact that it’s a half hour comedy has brought me back. I hadn’t watched any of the trailers and barely knew who was in it, but when I saw that it was premiering yesterday, I decided to check it out and see what it had to offer. While there wasn’t a whole lot to it, and it stuck with random superheroes and villains plus a couple Batman references, it was funny and I mostly enjoyed it, despite having some concerns over the directions when reading up on the differences between the original pilot and this one that actually went to air. Notably the fact that they dropped a large number of general DC universe references in favor of sticking Batman in yet another DC property because they just can’t get away from Batman.
