Episode Title:  Fool For Love

Last week we got to learn the background for Tara who this week is noticeably absent throughout and with no reason given for were she might be we can only assume that her family must have succeeded in carting her back home to the farm. Still the history lessons continue as following a failed patrol which leaves Buffy being stabbed with her own stake she decides to find out how Spike killed two Slayers in an attempt to avoid a similar fate to her predecessors.

Powerless S:01 E:03

Episode Title: Sinking Day
Original Airdate: 2-16-17

While this episode still has a strong feeling of antagonism between all of the characters, there is finally the start to some mutual respect and a little bit of chemistry between some of the characters. Notably Alan Tudyk’s Van Wayne and Vanessa Hudgens’s Emily. We also get to see yet another member of the Wayne family as Corbin Bernsen plays Van’s father Vanderveer Sr. Not only that, but we start to veer away from all the Batman references and have a whole episode dedicated, in a way, to Aquaman. Specifically the Atlanteans. While the rest of the R&D team don’t get much play in this episode, Alan Tudyk carries the episode with his antics. Definitely the best episode so far and it gives me hope for where the show ends up.

One thing I’ve already realized about why I decided to stop writing reviews on this site was that it was difficult for me to stick to a deadline each week when my evenings end up being so busy. So here I am, several days past my self-imposed deadline to discuss this past Thursday’s episode of Powerless. I will say that the episode did minimize the amount of Batman references, and I will also say that I re-watched the first episode with my wife and there were a couple non-Batman DC references that I overlooked. This episode also focused more on the entire office dynamic in general with very little in the way of actual superheroics which was mostly relegated to the office fantasy superhero draft.

It may not have a tie in to the movies but the first X-men related TV show in 20 years premiered tonight on FX. If you are like me you watched the trailers online or saw a commercial on TV, and you felt intrigued, even though you had no idea what was going on. Vampire – “I’ve always wanted to kill the Slayer.”

Buffy – “And I’ve always wanted piano lessons. So really… who’s surprised we’ve got this unexpressed rage? But honestly, I think I express mine better. Tell you what… you find yourself a good anger management class, and I’ll jam this pokey wood stick through your heart.”

So after last week’s misfire of an episode its great to see this episode getting things back on track if perhaps at the same time serving as something of an info dump as we get several big moments through the episode including the introduction of the series big bad “Glory”, Giles reopens the Magic Box, Joyce gets more sick and most key here we find out the truth about Dawn. it’s really a jam packed episode.

Powerless S:01 E:01

Episode Title: Wayne or Lose

It feels like I’ve been away from this site for way too long despite the fact that when I stopped watching the shows I was covering, I was fully enjoying them. But the concept of Powerless, and the fact that it’s a half hour comedy has brought me back. I hadn’t watched any of the trailers and barely knew who was in it, but when I saw that it was premiering yesterday, I decided to check it out and see what it had to offer. While there wasn’t a whole lot to it, and it stuck with random superheroes and villains plus a couple Batman references, it was funny and I mostly enjoyed it, despite having some concerns over the directions when reading up on the differences between the original pilot and this one that actually went to air. Notably the fact that they dropped a large number of general DC universe references in favor of sticking Batman in yet another DC property because they just can’t get away from Batman.

Episode Title: Out of My Mind

“I so don’t want to deal with Spike right now. The guy is really starting to bug me in that special “I want to shove something wooden through his heart” kind of way.” – Buffy

So after the run of great episodes this season has had so far it kind of comes to crashing halt this week as Riley finds himself suffering the side effects of his time with “The Initiative” which has now left him on the verge of having a heart attack while also unable to feel pain. However it soon becomes clear that Buffy is not the only one concerned for his health as the “The Initiative” try to also convince him to see their surgeon and get his health issues fixed. Elsewhere seeing an opportunity to get the chip removed from his brain Spike kidnaps the surgeon.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 4 Wrap Up

So here we are at the end of another season and what a diversive season this one has been which was the general opinion going into it, with some fan regarding it as the worse while I proclaimed it my favourite.

Revisiting this season in a more critical frame of mind it unquestionably has been clear this time round how many ups and down this season has had as we essentially saw the group being divided as Buffy, Willow and Oz headed off to College. Xander hit the road and Giles celebrated his new unemployed status by hooking up with old friends and giving us the occasional musical moment. Unquestionably it was a transformative season and perhaps because of the division these various life paths caused with the group that it failed to sit with some fans who perhaps would have preferred more of the group mentality we got with those first three seasons.

I think if the show followed, a typical naming convention for its episodes that this one could have been called Old Beginnings because almost everything is back to the way it was before the events of episode 1. Episode Title: Soliloquy of Chaos
Originally Aired: September 30th 2016

The penultimate episode of Marvel and Netflix’s Luke Cage is upon us and it did not disappoint. From a great celebrity cameo by Method Man to multiple double crosses and a gang war, I was entertained from start to finish. As most of you probably know each episode this season has been titled after a Gang Starr song, I had to bring it up this time because if you just look at the title it doesn’t make much sense. Yes, the song is terrible, and it is a poor title because it is hard to cause chaos when you are alone, but if you listen or read the final verse of the song, you see that it is about retaliation and a circle of violence that can apply to this episode.
