Tensions mount between the Group and Hershel when Glenn spills the beans about the Walkers in the barn. Shane wants to leave, fearing for the Group’s safety and feeling that Sophia is a lost cause, but Rick wants to convince Hershel to let them stay since Lori’s pregnant. Hershel agrees, but only if the Group can live by his “we don’t kill the infected” rule. Dale becomes even more “old-man-knows-best” annoying by having yet another talk with the stubborn Andrea, then taking the Group’s stock of guns to hide, only to be stopped by a very angry Shane, who just found out Lori is pregnant and knows the chances are good that the baby is his.

Hershel allows the Group to set up camp at his farm, so they have a central location from which to search for Sophia and to allow Carl to heal, at the cost of surrendering their guns, much to Andrea’s chagrin. With Rick weak from blood donation and Shane nursing a bad ankle, Daryl decides to search on his own and comes across an abandoned house that looks as though Sophia took refuge in, but does not find the girl. Glenn accompanies Maggie into town to gather supplies at the local pharmacy, and to pick up a extra special item for Lori. The two make a connection and end up having sex in the abandoned store. Rick tries to convince Hershel to let the Group stay permanently, to which Hershel agrees if they can abide by his sometimes peculiar rules. Glenn gives Lori her special item: a pregnancy test, which she promptly uses and learns she is indeed pregnant.

Time for Season 2: The Farm. The Walking Dead Season:01

Walking Dead S1

Obviously Season 1 worked for me since I haven’t missed a single episode in five years. Having not read the graphic novel, I came into The Walking Dead with no expectations of what should be, and was able to judge the show on its own merits. And overall I loved it. It had a few missteps with pointless plots (“Vatos”) and didn’t do a very good job of writing the female characters, but it was still a breath of fresh air for television horror. And in six short episodes it easily left me wanting more of the Group and the Walkers. After five seasons, I’d rank it as my second favorite.
