Everyone is angry. They want their family members back, but aren’t given any information by the soldiers. In an attempt to find out where his wife is, Daniel kidnaps and tortures Ofelia’s soldier boyfriend Andrew. During the torture, Andrew tells of the military’s plans to evacuate the safe zones, but only themselves and not the survivors. The operation also includes the termination of all survivors.

Episode Title: Not Fade Away
Original Airdate: 9/20/15

It’s been nine days since the National Guard moved in to clear out the infected. They’ve put up a fence to create a safe zone, promised doctors, medicine, food and eventually, electricity. We know all this because the episode opens with a painful expository scene of Chris talking to his video camera, while hanging out on the roof. At this time, he also glimpses a flashing light reflected in the danger zone, which he believes to be signaling that someone is trapped. Travis doesn’t believe him, but Madison cuts the fence to go investigate. She sees many dead bodies that have yet to be cleared out and some that were shot in the head that were not infected, but must hide when the Guard comes through and therefore cannot find the light source.

Episode Title: The Dog
Original Airdate: 9/13/15

This episode picks up right where we left everyone two weeks ago. Madison and her kids are waiting at their house for Travis to return, attempting to distract themselves with the sounds of horror heard throughout the neighborhood. Travis, Chris and Liza are trapped in a barber shop with the Salazar family of Daniel, Griselda and Ofelia, as the riots become more dangerous outside. They finally escape when the store next door is set on fire. While running away, rioters force scaffolding to topple and Griselda’s foot is crushed. Though they agreed to go their separate ways, Travis returns to carry her to his truck so both families can escape together.

Episode Title: So Close, Yet So Far
Original Airdate: 8-30-15

After witnessing the undead Cal in action, Travis, Madison and Nick realize something terrible is starting in L.A. They decide to pack up and head out of town until everything blows over (ha!). They must split up when Travis goes to his ex-wife’s house looking for his son, Chris. Chris was on his way home on the bus when all traffic stopped because the police shot a homeless man in the street. A crowd begins to gather in protest and Chris, filming the incident, refuses to leave when Travis gets him on the phone. Travis and his ex-wife, Liza, go to get Chris from the crime scene and realize how dangerous things are really becoming. Blocked by police and surrounded by rioters and a few Walkers, the trio find refuge in a barber shop with the owner and his family. Everyone hopes things will calm down enough to leave, but things only seem to go from bad to worse as the night progresses.

The Walking Dead Season:02

The Walking Dead Season 2

At the time of its original airing, I really liked Season 2 of The Walking Dead. I rebuffed all the haters who complained on a weekly basis that the time on the Farm was dragging out and the Group needed to move on. I was convinced that the writers were keeping the Group there to really build the characters for us and it was easier to do so if everyone stayed put for awhile instead of giving us action-packed episodes full of Walker killing. I was wrong.

Episode Title: Pilot
Original Airdate: 8-23-15

Now that you have had your retro dose of The Walking Dead with my thoughts on the Season 2 finale this morning, let’s get into the pilot for its spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead.

The show opens with Nick Clark waking in an abandoned church after an assumed night of heavy drug use. As he’s looking for his lady friend, Gloria, he comes across a dead body with the throat ripped out. There are other signs of carnage all around. Nick then comes across Gloria, eating the remains of another dead body until she starts coming toward him. He escapes to the outside world, only to be hit by a car on a busy L.A. street, where there are no signs of a zombie apocalypse occurring.

The Walking Dead Season 2

Episode Title: Beside the Dying Fire
Original Airdate: 3-18-2012

The episode opens in Atlanta, as various Walkers are feasting on whatever they can find. Suddenly a helicopter flies by, attracting their attention. They begin to migrate in a herd, until they are in the woods surrounding the Farm. Carl’s gunfire, putting down Walker Shane, draws the herd closer…and the Farm is overrun. But not without a fight.

The Walking Dead Season 2

Episode Title: Better Angels
Original Airdate: 3-11-2012

The day after Dale’s death, the Farm goes on lockdown. Hershel allows the Group to move into the house, as everyone secures the windows and doors, while stockpiling food for potential emergencies. Unfortunately there is still the issue of Randall. Rick is determined to take him over an hour away, with Daryl’s help, to dump him. Shane, having had enough, unties Randall and leads him into the woods, snapping his neck. Shane then rams his own face into a tree and hides his gun. He runs back to the Farm as everyone discovers their prisoner is missing, telling tall tales of Randall sneaking up on him, knocking him out and stealing his gun.

The Walking Dead Season 2

Episode Title: Judge, Jury, Executioner
Original Airdate: 3-4-12

It’s annoying old man versus annoying kid this week. The episode starts with Daryl torturing the captive Randall (yep, he’s STILL a thing) for information about his group to determine how much danger everyone at the farm might be in if they set him free. It is decided his release is too much of a threat. No one wants to actually kill the kid (okay, except maybe crazy Shane) but old man Dale is adamant that this action is wrong and spends the day trying to change everyone’s mind, one by one. Yes, it’s as painful and drawn out as it sounds.

31 Days of Tales From the Crypt: Sign-ups

Hello boils and ghouls! It’s time once again for another blogathon here at Channel: Superhero. And even though October is right in the middle of the new fall season, it’s still a perfect excuse to share some love of horror, and what better combination of horror, comics, and television than Tales From the Crypt? It ran on HBO for seven seasons, it was hosted by one of the most iconic horror characters, and it had a whole host of famous and pre-famous actors, writers, and directors taking a shot at a single episode. What I’d like to do here at Channel: Superhero is to take an in depth look at a different episode every single day and I need your help!
