Gotham S:02 E:10

Episode Title: The Son of Gotham
Original Airdate: 11-23-15

Without going into too much detail just yet, I think it’s safe to say that I’m pretty much fully on board again with Gotham. There’s only a couple middling things here and there that have been bugging me, but for the most part I’m truly enjoying where the arcs are for every character on the show. Gordon, Riddler, and Bruce are all three continuing down a darker path. Meanwhile the escalation of the Court of Owls, currently referred to in the show as the Sacred Order of St. Dumas, is a little bit out there but I can go along with it for now.

Episode Title: “Gorillas in Our Midst!”

Original Air Date: April 16, 2010

So we have the return of Detective Chimp, the character whose name describes him perfectly because he is a detective who is also a chimp. Along with Batman, the hirsute Sherlock Holmes is out to stop a trio of criminal gorillas, so when the shows throws in B’Wanna Beast and Vixen it seems perfectly set up for a real rumble in the jungle. Read on to find out how it unfolds.

Batman S:01 E:16

Episode Title: He Meets His Match, the Grisly Ghoul
Original Airdate: March 3, 1966

When we last left the Caped Crusaders they had been captured by the Joker, shoved into the back of a truck, and strapped to a couple of electric chairs wired to a slot machine. When three lemons show up, the juice gets turned on…and we’ve already got two lemons! How will they ever get out of this one? Let’s find out in today’s episode, He Meets His Match, the Grisly Ghoul. Episode Title: A Bitter Pill to Swallow
Original Airdate: 11-16-15

I can’t entirely tell if this show is actually getting better, or if I’ve finally just given in and accepted that this isn’t going to be the show that I want it to be. But I really enjoyed this episode, in fact I’d say that it was my favorite of the season so far. It just did all the right things with all of the characters with only a couple minor missteps towards the end. Gordon is really going down a much darker path than I expected, and more or less so is everyone on this show except for possibly baby Bruce. But there’s still room for a bit of comedy here and there to lighten things up.

Gotham S:02 E:08

Episode Title: Tonight’s the Night
Original Airdate: 11-09-15

I won’t go so far as to say that this episode falls back down into the hill of annoyability, but in terms of tropes and predictability, this really took the cake. I mean between obvious trap is obvious, car sideswiped by a truck out of nowhere, and villain dangling from a high place holding onto the arm of our hero, it’s pretty thick with them. Luckily, we also get a nice sidetrack with the Riddler on his own path through the woods, and a little bit of Harvey Bullock to lighten the mood.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S02 E11

Episode Title: “Chill of the Night!”

Original Air Date: April 9, 2010

Batman’s origin is always fertile ground in which to grow an intriguing story, and that’s where this episode takes us. It also weaves in some classic, mysterious supernatural figures from DC’s lore, and most importantly this episode was written by Paul Dini. Really guys, did you think you were just going to quietly slip in a Paul Dini story without anyone noticing? The title sequencee should have started with, “ LOOK! THIS EPISODE WAS WRITTEN BY PAUL DINI!” Of course Dini is the greatest writer of animated Batman tales ever, as well as great work writing for He-Man and The Masters of the Universe, Ewoks: The Animated Series and Days of Our Lives… well he’s written some good Batman Tales! Read on for more.

Batman S:01 E:13

Episode Title: The Thirteenth Hat
Original Airdate: February 23, 1966

Today, we know many of Batman’s villains not just by their nicknames, but by their actual names. Edward Nygma is the Riddler, Selina Kyle is Catwoman, Oswald Cobblepot is the Penguin. However, these names were rarely used on the 60’s Batman television series. Our villain in today’s story, though, is an exception. Actor David Wayne makes his debut as Jervis Tetch…aka, The Mad Hatter in The Thirteenth Hat. Continue reading Batman S:01 E:13

Gotham S:02 E:07

Episode Title: Mommy’s Little Monster
Original Airdate: 11-2-15

And we’re back, and on time this time. Kinda. Hopefully. If I finish writing this quickly enough. Anyway after hemming and hawwing for a bit, I’m back on board for a while with Gotham, and hopefully it stays this way. There aren’t any characters that are completely aggravating me, and the intrigue is actually intriguing. We’ve got Butch back in business. Kinda. Hopefully. Penguin in full-on gang war with Galavan, and Gordon finally wising up to his ways even if it is a little bit too late. Did this or did this not feel like the fastest mayoral race in history, even if it is supposedly an emergency election? Whatever. I’m still on board. For now.

Gotham S:02 E:06

Episode Title: By Fire
Original Airdate: 10-26-15

It’s getting old hat to say how much I’m up and down on Gotham so instead of going through it all again, I’ll just skip to the end and say that I rather enjoyed this episode minus a couple characters that I’m not feeling very much anymore. It has a strong turn for Cat as well as the continuation of a turning point for Gordon. It also furthers Nygma’s plot, and while it does once again go much further down the rabbit hole than I would have expected considering the show’s timeline, I’ll go along with it for now. And as far as Bridgit’s Firefly, she had a nice bit of a tragic villain story with a twist at the end that I rather enjoyed.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S02 E10

Episode Title: “The Power of Shazam!”

Original Air Date: April 2, 2010

This week we have an alien menace threatening the inhabitants of Earth, starting of course with its heroes. We also have our visit with the Earth’s mightiest mortal, known to some as the big red cheese. I think we also get a message about family, and maybe not being cliquish? I’m not real sure about that last one. Read on for details.
