Daredevil S:01 E:11

I wonder if this show should’ve been a standard one hour drama. They usually don’t have enough material to make a full hour of amazing, gripping television; typically it’s a half-and-half mix of awesomeness and plodding filler. Like this one. How do you evaluate that? Do you praise the good half, or condemn the lousy half, or what? Continue reading Daredevil S:01 E:11

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:01 Ep:05

Episode title: Never Kill A Boy On The First Date

Original air date: March 31, 1997

“All right, I’ll just drop in my time machine, go back to the twelfth century, and ask the vampire to postpone their ancient prophecy for a few days while you take in dinner and a show.”

If there could be a moment when the show writers finally cracked the secret to writing the show it would be with this episode as here the show certainly seems to find its groove as the blend between humour and horror is found. Plot wise it’s equally important as Buffy continues to try and balance her slaying duties and having a normal high school life in particular landing a date with Owen. The Master meanwhile searches for a powerful vampire known as “The Anointed One”. Continue reading Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:01 Ep:05

iZombie Season:01

The last comic book show of the 2014-2015 season has finally ended and I’m just going to put it right up front that this was my favorite show, edging out the Flash by a very narrow margin. I hadn’t watched Veronica Mars before watching this so I wasn’t very familiar with Rob Thomas’s work outside of Matchbox 20 (yes I know, wrong Rob Thomas). I also had never even heard of the comic book and thought that the whole iNaming convention had been way overused. But after the pilot episode I was hooked, and throughout these thirteen episodes it drew me in further and further and it just has the right amount of depth, character development, and twists and turns without relying too heavily on its own gimmick.

Tiger and Bunny S:01 E:04

Episode Title: Fear is Often Greater Than the Danger
Original Airdate: 4-24-11

After spending so much time with Barnaby and Kotetsu, the show takes a break to focus on one of the other heroes working for Hero TV, namely Blue Rose. Her real name is Karina and she is one of the youngest heroes on the show. The episode kicks off by having her off her game when she gets shot at in the middle of her catchphrase and rescued by Barnaby, but most of the rest of the episode follows her around in her life outside of the heroism as she tries to have a normal life at school and her fledgling singing career. In fact, she’s more interested in singing than she is in being a hero, and through some of the advice she gets from Barnaby and Kotetsu, we finally get a moment where it seems that they do have something in common after all.

The Walking Dead S:02 E:03

The Walking Dead Season 2

Episode Title: Save the Last One
Original Airdate: 10-30-11

Shane and Otis are stuck in the local high school, completely surrounded by Walkers. They split up to escape, hoping to meet up outside in a safe area. Rick and Lori continue to watch over an unconscious Carl, but Hershel informs them that a decision needs to be made soon if Shane and Otis do not return with the necessary medical equipment. Lori thinks that maybe it’d be best to let Carl die peacefully instead of face this cruel new world everyday, but Rick doesn’t agree. Glenn and T-Dog arrive at the farmhouse, where T-Dog’s life-threatening cut is stitched up and Glenn makes a better acquaintance of Maggie.

Batman Beyond S:2 Ep:07

Episode title: Once Burned

Original air date: November 6, 1999

Until this point in the series it has been very much following a bad guy of the week format with the exception of the Jokerz who have had something of a promotion to main villain status, something they only continue to add to this week, while we get the first appearance this season of one of the mainstay villains “The Royal Flush Gang”. This of course is bad news for Terry in more than one way especially when he’s in similar situation with gang member Ten / Melanie as Bruce was with Selina Kyle / Catwoman. Saturday Morning Memories: Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors

Growing up in the 80’s cartoons were very much a big part of my childhood and with local TV being limited to four channels, I used to look forward to the weekend morning cartoons, even if it did involve getting up way earlier than everyone else in the house just so I could catch up with all my favourite characters.  Even as I got older I still remember running around my paper round just so I could get back in time to watch “Gargoyles” with these cartoons seemingly holding so much importance back then. A feeling perfectly captured in the “Z-Trip” track “Breakfast Club”.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold S01 E20

Episode Title: “Hail the Tornado Tyrant!”

Original Air Dance: June 5, 2009

When I saw the title for this episode I thought we were going to see some kind of computer glitch cause Red Tornado to take a “heel turn”, but that isn’t quite what happened. Though there were a lot of liberties taken, this episode did pay quite a bit of homage to Red Tornado’s, strange, interesting and somewhat confusing history.

Daredevil S:01 E:10

And right after they finally got everybody on the same page, they’re split up again. The timing couldn’t be worse; the series was JUST starting to click, bringing the subpar daytime plot up to the superior nighttime plot’s level. Oh, well… these conflicts are inevitable. And since Netflix’s episode preview images spoil that they do get back together in the end, we’ll ride it out… Continue reading Daredevil S:01 E:10

Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends S:03 E:03

Episode Title: The Education of a Superhero

We’ve seen a number of new characters original to this series as we’ve made our way through the last 18 episodes of this show. However, there is one character that keeps coming back…Videoman. That’s right, the 80’s video game craze incarnate. Today we take in the character’s third and final appearance on the series in The Education of a Superhero.
