Jessic Jones S:02 E:04

Episode Title: AKA God Help the Hobo
Originally Aired March 8th, 2018

I think this week’s episode of Jessica Jones may have set the bar for being action-packed without involving a chase scene or extended fighting. Instead, this episode featured, breaking and entering, illegal drug use, assisted suicide, random hookups, and murders in an episode so intriguing I found it hard to stop and write this review.

I really liked how this episode set the tone for what’s coming, not just for the new few days but for the rest of the characters’ lives. Jeri makes a plan for her future that will put her in control because it is the only way she knows how to live. Malcolm is making moves to be a bigger part of Alias Investigations. Trish is teetering on the precipice of sobriety because of her obsession with powered people. Jessica is finally beginning to understand just how angry she is and how it controls her life. It was a powerful character driven episode that still had plenty of fun and excitement Marvel fans come to expect.

I guess the biggest complaint you could make about this show is that it doesn’t really push the IGH story that much. We are introduced to one new character but that is the biggest development for the season’s main story. It was more about dropping the breadcrumbs than following them to the conclusion. This was the one and only episode directed by Deborah Chow and the first of two written by Jack Kenny. His second episode will come up in about four weeks. If you loved this episode like I did you don’t have to wait too long to find out where he will be taking our heroes. A minor complaint I have is about the added plotline of a good guy who may be turning bad. I think it could just be a misdirection but it is too early to tell. I don’t hate the idea on the surface, it just feels extraneous when there are already so many massive storylines.

If you just happen to click on this to get a feel for the show don’t start here because there is so much that happened in the first three episodes that you need to watch. I am just a sucker for seeing the growth of characters I love so I may have oversold this episode for newcomers.
