Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:02 Ep: 01

Episode title: When She Was Bad

Original air date: September 15, 1997

“Well, that works out great. You won’t tell anyone that I’m the Slayer, and I won’t tell anyone you’re a moron.”

After the surprise success of the first season it was of little surprise that the second season would get a significant boost in episodes with this season consisting of 22 episodes compared to the previous seasons 13 episodes.

Having vanquished “The Master” at the end of the first season, Sunnydale has been surprisingly free of vampire activity, while Buffy has spent the summer with her father in Los Angeles, leaving Xander and Willow to carry out her patrols. It’s of course not long before the pair encounters their first vampire of the series with Buffy perfectly timing her return to dust the vampire with her usual effortless cool. However it soon seems that not everything is fine with her as she continues to deal with the fallout from last season’s finale. Elsewhere the child like Anointed One and his followers plan to resurrect “The Master” using his skeletal remains.

Episode Title: Captain America
Original Airdate: 11-26-12

Welcome to another Webseries Spotlight where you don’t just have to read about the shows we cover here, but you can actually watch them. This time around I’m featuring an animated webseries from Klomp Animation based out of the Netherlands about superheroes having a bad day, appropriately called Bad Days. We will be sharing an episode, a part of our conversation with lead animator and co-founder Junaid Chundrigar except that we have reached the end of that conversation with some episodes to go. If you want to continue that conversation, leave a comment below. Or if you can’t wait, feel free to check out the rest of the webseries at Stan Lee’s World of Heroes and CineFix. This week it’s the Dark Knight’s turn to face his enemies, his conflicting past, and the fight between gritty and campy.

The Walking Dead Season 2

Episode Title: Better Angels
Original Airdate: 3-11-2012

The day after Dale’s death, the Farm goes on lockdown. Hershel allows the Group to move into the house, as everyone secures the windows and doors, while stockpiling food for potential emergencies. Unfortunately there is still the issue of Randall. Rick is determined to take him over an hour away, with Daryl’s help, to dump him. Shane, having had enough, unties Randall and leads him into the woods, snapping his neck. Shane then rams his own face into a tree and hides his gun. He runs back to the Farm as everyone discovers their prisoner is missing, telling tall tales of Randall sneaking up on him, knocking him out and stealing his gun.

Episode Title: Hiros
Original Airdate: 10-23-06

Onto the fifth episode in the first season and this is the one where things really start to feel like they’re finally coming together. There’s a sense of purpose and a sense of wonder that really shines through in this episode more than some of the other episodes aside from possibly the pilot. There’s also something that I noticed in this episode that either wasn’t in the earlier episodes, or I just hadn’t really noticed and that’s the strong color palette with a focus on the primary colors red, yellow, and blue. There’s also a handful of moments where more characters start embracing their powers besides Hiro who has accepted his power from day one. In fact, Hiro is just about the only character who doesn’t use his powers in this episode.

The Walking Dead Season 2

Episode Title: Judge, Jury, Executioner
Original Airdate: 3-4-12

It’s annoying old man versus annoying kid this week. The episode starts with Daryl torturing the captive Randall (yep, he’s STILL a thing) for information about his group to determine how much danger everyone at the farm might be in if they set him free. It is decided his release is too much of a threat. No one wants to actually kill the kid (okay, except maybe crazy Shane) but old man Dale is adamant that this action is wrong and spends the day trying to change everyone’s mind, one by one. Yes, it’s as painful and drawn out as it sounds.

Episode Title: Collision
Original Airdate: 10-16-2006

Coming into the fourth episode of the season and characters are already starting to intermingle with each others story lines in different and unexpected ways. Some of the characters begin to fall into using their powers for their own gain, and we get to see a little bit more of Noah and what he really does. There isn’t much progress on the Sylar front, or really any major story line. Most of this episode just involves a lot of character development and interactions along with the first real hint at the season long tagline “Save the cheerleader, save the world.”

The Walking Dead Season 2

Episode Title: 18 Miles Out
Original Airdate: 2-26-2012

Apparently some time has passed on the farm. Randall’s leg has healed and Shane and Rick are driving him (robbed of his sight and hearing) eighteen miles from the farm to abandon him with a few supplies and a prayer. Of course everything goes to hell. As the two walk away from a pleading Randall, he mentions having gone to school with Maggie, which leads Rick and Shane to believe that, despite their best efforts, he knows where the farm is. Shane decides to execute Randall right there, but is thwarted by Rick. Fueled by a confessional conversation they had during the long drive, including Otis’s murder and the affair with Lori, the two friends finally have it out over everything. During their kerfuffle, Shane breaks a window and Walkers begin piling out of what the men thought was an abandoned building. Shane becomes trapped, and after barely escaping with his own life, Rick grabs Randall and plans to leave, but changes his mind at the last minute to rescue his friend, who gets a stern talking-to on the way back, which fell on deaf ears.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:01 Ep:11

Episode title: Out of Mind, Out of Sight

Original air date: May 19, 1997

“Y’know, I really felt sorry for you. You’ve suffered. But there’s one thing I really didn’t factor into all this. You’re a thundering loony!” – Buffy

It’s hard to believe but next week is the season one finale and while this first season has just flown by, this revisit has served to highlight flaws I missed previously like just how little we saw of “The Master” which is only the more strange when he’s supposed to be the season big evil. This episode does little to change that status as this week Cordelia finds herself being stalked by an foe with the power of invisibility as she campaigns for May Queen, while leaving Buffy with the issue of how do you hunt a foe you can’t see?
