Gotham S:02 E:01

Episode Title: Damned if You Do…
Original Airdate: 9-21-15

It’s been a while, but aside from Fear the Walking Dead which is a cable show and not exactly on the typical Fall network schedule we are back into the 2015/2016 television season and the first one out of the gate is Fox’s Gotham. Last season was very hit and miss with me and seemingly the rest of the audience. Many fans of Batman that I know of didn’t enjoy the campy and over the top nature of some of the characters, but other people still really enjoyed the character arcs and look of the show. For myself, I went back and forth from episode to episode. I wasn’t a fan of Fish Mooney’s caricatured portrayal of a villain, but I enjoyed some of the other characters and really enjoyed the look of the show. This season kicks off with more of the same at the moment, with several returning villains from last season and everyone in a very different situation more or less.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:02 Ep:05

Episode title: Reptile Boy

Original air date: October 13, 1997

“One day I’ll have money. Prestige. Power. And on that day they’ll still have more.” – Xander

Kind of a weird episode this week as Buffy investigates a missing high school student, while struggling once more to balance a normal life outside of her slayer responsibilities. At the same time her confused feelings for Angel lead to her attending a frat party with Cordelia only to discover that the fraternity members hide more than a few secrets of their own.

Guardians of the Galaxy S:01 E:01

Episode Title: Road to Knowhere
Original Airdate: 9-26-15

In case you didn’t know, while the official premier date of the cartoon version of the Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t until September 26th, there was a sneak preview of the pilot episode along with several mini-sodes that looked at the origins of the main five characters from before they met up with each other in the movie just yesterday on Disney XD. I managed to watch the pilot episode as well as all of the mini-sodes and am here to give you my take on them. For the most part, I thought that they kept up with the movie’s humor while appropriately playing down the more adult elements of the humor. The voicework is quite obviously different from the film version, but they all manage to grasp the correct elements of their characters and while it might take a little getting used to if you’re a fan of the film, it doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the show.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:02 Ep:03

Episode title: School Hard

Original air date: September 29, 1997

“You were my sire, man! You were my … YODA!” – Spike

For some reason I thought this episode came later in the season but this current rewatch only highlighted how early in this season the showrunners were working on their endgame for the season as this week we get the first appearance of Spike and Drusilla, two characters who would go on to play major roles in not only this series but “Angel” aswell. Not that we could have ever known this by this first appearance when they seemed like another villain of the week, but unquestionably here the duo certainly make their mark with their debut.

Unaware of the threat of Spike and Drusilla this week sees Buffy once more struggling to balance her slayer duties and school life and once more putting her in the sights of Principal Snyder, who pairs Buffy with fellow problem student Sheila to prepare the school lounge for the parent-teacher night or risk being expelled. Of course this event will serve for the climax of the episode with Spike launching an assault on the school. Continue reading Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:02 Ep:03

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:02 Ep:02

Episode title: Some Assembly Required

Original air date: September 22, 1997

“Well, ‘body’ would mean flesh-eating demon. ‘No body’ points more toward the ‘army of zombie’ thing. Take your pick.” – Buffy

An interesting this week as not only does it give us a play on “Frankenstein” but also an episode which it could be argued is lead more by its villains than any member of the Scoobie gang as Buffy has to deal with a case of bodysnatching when she discovers an open grave while on patrol.

Heroes S:01 E:06

Episode Title: Better Halves
Original Airdate: 10-30-2006

After several episodes of dancing around it, we finally get one that more or less reveals what is really going on with Niki and her alter ego, along with the real introduction of D.L. and his powers. Meanwhile, there’s also a bit of connections floating around that reveal more than they were initially letting on. One of my remembered story twists were also revealed in this episode, though not exactly the way I had originally remembered. The biggest issue that I had with this episode is that the focus is on Niki for most of the run time, and she is honestly the least interesting character out of the entire first season group.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer S:02 Ep: 01

Episode title: When She Was Bad

Original air date: September 15, 1997

“Well, that works out great. You won’t tell anyone that I’m the Slayer, and I won’t tell anyone you’re a moron.”

After the surprise success of the first season it was of little surprise that the second season would get a significant boost in episodes with this season consisting of 22 episodes compared to the previous seasons 13 episodes.

Having vanquished “The Master” at the end of the first season, Sunnydale has been surprisingly free of vampire activity, while Buffy has spent the summer with her father in Los Angeles, leaving Xander and Willow to carry out her patrols. It’s of course not long before the pair encounters their first vampire of the series with Buffy perfectly timing her return to dust the vampire with her usual effortless cool. However it soon seems that not everything is fine with her as she continues to deal with the fallout from last season’s finale. Elsewhere the child like Anointed One and his followers plan to resurrect “The Master” using his skeletal remains.

Episode Title: Captain America
Original Airdate: 11-26-12

Welcome to another Webseries Spotlight where you don’t just have to read about the shows we cover here, but you can actually watch them. This time around I’m featuring an animated webseries from Klomp Animation based out of the Netherlands about superheroes having a bad day, appropriately called Bad Days. We will be sharing an episode, a part of our conversation with lead animator and co-founder Junaid Chundrigar except that we have reached the end of that conversation with some episodes to go. If you want to continue that conversation, leave a comment below. Or if you can’t wait, feel free to check out the rest of the webseries at Stan Lee’s World of Heroes and CineFix. This week it’s the Dark Knight’s turn to face his enemies, his conflicting past, and the fight between gritty and campy.
