Lynda Carter’s journey toward one day being Wonder Woman actually started in 1972 when she won a local beauty pageant in Arizona. She then went on to win the Miss World USA pageant. This led to acting classes and eventually being cast as Wonder Woman in 1975. Whereas other famous superheroes like Batman and Superman have some pretty iconic bad guys who have been portrayed in their various TV incarnations, Wonder Woman is a bit different. I dare say that many of the people who aren’t a part of the comic book culture would have a hard time naming any of Wonder Woman’s foes, while villains like The Joker, Lex Luthor, The Riddler, or Brainiac are much more well-known. Well, here in our first regular season episode of Wonder Woman we have one of the series’ few appearances of a villain that originated in the comics. This 90-minute premiere was divided into two episodes when the series made it to syndication, but we will look at it in its original form. Wonder Woman Introduction

When we look at the whole universe of DC Comics characters, it’s very easy to pick out who the big three are…Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. However, while there have been numerous film and TV incarnations of the two male members of that trifecta, DC has struggled to bring Wonder Woman to the screen. Both the Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader have been appearing in movies since the 1940’s. With Wonder Woman, things took much longer. She actually didn’t make her big-screen debut until 2014, in of all things The LEGO Movie. For all her struggles when it comes to movies, Wonder Woman did, however, have a very iconic television incarnation in the mid 70’s that gave many children of my generation their definitive version of the character.
