Episode Title: Green with Evil Part I
Original Airdate: October 5, 1993

It is not uncommon for some well-known television series’ to make big changes as they progress. Take something like Happy Days. The Fonze was just a side character when the series began, but eventually he became the focal point of the show. The show Family Matters introduced a nerdy next door neighbor named Steve Urkel midway through the first season and he soon became the star of the show. Well, we’ve reached the point where the Power Rangers made a major change…bringing in a new cast member who would stick with the show through the run of this series and who would appear in future shows in the Power Rangers universe, as well. Here comes the introduction of Tommy in Green with Evil Part I. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:17

From Freaky Friday to Vice Versa to Dream a Little Dream…it seems that time and time again the old body switch gimmick gets used in movies and TV. I regularly guest on several podcasts, including the LAMBcast (official podcast of the Large Association of Movie Blogs). Probably my favorite appearance on that show was when we talked about all four films in the classic airline disaster movie franchise, Airport. Today’s episode may actually take a little bit of inspiration from the Airport franchise. Plus, as an extra bonus, Rita’s monster is voiced by a future Emmy winner and Academy Award nominee. Put your tray tables in their full upright position for Foul Play in the Sky. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:14

Have you noticed something about all of Rita’s monsters so far? All dudes. Of course, the main baddie, Rita herself, is female…but still. It’s time for a bit of diversity in the villain department in this episode. Plus, we also add a new human female as Billy gets a bit of a crush in today’s episode, Peace, Love, and Woe. Episode Title: Power Ranger Punks
Original Airdate: September 20, 1993

I don’t know what the different cliques are in high schools of today, but when I was in high school in the 80’s we definitely had the punks. By the early 90’s, though, I’m not so sure this look was still around as much. We were moving over to grunge by that point. In Angel Grove, however, they were about to have a punk problem. Break out your spiked bracelets for today’s episode, Power Ranger Punks. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:12

Episode Title: No Clowning Around
Original Airdate: September 17, 1993

Some people are afraid of clowns.  I admit, it’s hard for me to relate to this particular phobia, especially since I actually have several friends who are professional clowns.  While watching my friends perform I’ve seen grown adults leave the room because of this irrational fear.  Perhaps these folks were traumatized by today’s episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.  It is perhaps one of the most iconic episodes of the show’s first season…No Clowning Around. Episode Title: Happy Birthday, Zack
Original Airdate: September 16, 1993

I’ve watched an awful lot of TV in my life…more than what is probably healthy. So, there are certain plot devices that I recognize as the old standbys, so to speak. You know, those story elements that we see over and over and over again. One of those would definitely be having a character think that everybody else on the show has forgotten their birthday. Well, that’s just what happens to Zack in today’s episode, Happy Birthday, Zack. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:10
