Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Season 1 Recap

Well, it took quite a bit of time, but we managed to make it through the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers…60 episodes in all. Compared to most shows, that’s an awful lot of episodes for just one season. Remember, though, at this point in the show’s history it was a daily program, airing every weekday afternoon. The first season proved to be very popular with kids. By Christmas of 1993, Power Rangers toys were all in huge demand. I was working at a department store at the time and any time Power Rangers toys came in they would be gone within just minutes of being put on the sales floor. There was controversy, as well. Many parents felt the show was a bit too violent for its target audience. What do they know, though. I sure had a lot of fun checking out this series. Before we move on, let’s take a look back at the first season. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Season 1 Recap

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:60

Well Citizens of Angel Grove, we’ve finally made it to the final episode of season one for the Power Rangers. My apologies for it taking so long. As I said with my last Batman post, work and computer problems got in the way of a timely post. This one is worth the wait, though, as we close the season with one of the most unintentionally inappropriate episodes the series has seen. Here we go with the season finale, An Oyster Stew. Episode Title: Enter…the Lizzinator
Original Airdate: May 6, 1994

It’s just one of those unwritten rules that when you add “inator” to the end of a word it makes it sound more menacing. Give an Ahhhhnold style accent to whatever thing you’ve added those letters to and that’s a bonus. On today’s episode of Power Rangers we get both. Get ready for Enter…the Lizzinator! Episode Title: Second Chance
Original Airdate: May 4, 1994

Sports were never my thing when I was a kid. I never have been very athletic. The one organized sport I did play for a time was soccer. I usually played a midfield position. I wasn’t very good, but I could kick the ball forward if it came to me, and that was pretty much my job. Well, it seems that soccer is pretty popular in Angel Grove, too. In today’s episode of Power Rangers our heroes have to kick around a strange giant armadillo, soccer style in Second Chance. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:55

Episode Title: Fowl Play
Original Airdate: May 2, 1994

Shows like Power Rangers are what filled the kids block programming schedules in the 90’s, but when I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s, most of that time was filled with classic cartoons. Stuff like Popeye, Tom and Jerry, and Woody Woodpecker. Well, on this visit to Angel Grove we get a very different type of woodpecker than the classic cartoon character. It’s time for some monster bird action in Fowl Play. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:53

Episode Title: Two Heads are Better than One
Original Airdate: April 29, 1994

Rita and her gang have come up with some pretty weird monsters over the course of this first Power Rangers season. Some of the creatures have at least been based off of some pretty ferocious real world animals. Every now and then, though we get one that seems to have come out of some insane acid trip. Case in point: a two-headed parrot. That’s what we get this week in Two Heads are Better than One. Continue reading Mighty Morphin Power Rangers S:01 E:52
